Impulse Buys

Very few of my guitars were impulse buys. Just one Esquire Scorpion; saw it on Craigslist super cheap and drove across town right away to score it before somebody else did. Also got a blackface Bandmaster from a pawnshop coupla years ago.

Two guitar purchases were sudden and unexpected. But is it really an impulse buy if it's a model & color you owned years ago and have longed for decades to replace? I say not. Still, if so, two of my three Les Paul Customs qualify.

I've bought any number of pedals on impulse though. Came to see pedal buying as sort of a way to indulge GAS without spending thousands the way I would for guitars or vintage amps. Of course now I have two pedalboards and a bunch of extra drive pedals.

Presently fighting a strong urge to snag a discontinued distortion with 7-band EQ and preset memory. I don't need another distortion pedal, even though this one's pretty cool and unusual: splits the signal into several bands and distorts each one independently.
The thing is, it also can be used as for straight EQ & boost so that could be genuinely handy. And it has six presets.
I've wanted a programmable EQ for a couple of years now...

Beagle, I sense you are a lot like me. It takes a lot for me to earn and keep folding milk money.

Now if I were to say I had any impulse buys, maybe my amp purchases were. I mean, I can surely match my skill on a $90 Fender Princeton Chorus.
But, I have been known to buy some 50 and 100 watt Valve amps they no longer make. 1978 Super Lead, 8 knob Laney AOR 50watt Pro Tube Lead.
That is about it,

Basically enjoy the search but it has to fill a spot with a different application or tone. Methodically hunt it down with patience. When the item fits criteria..done, no hesitation .if its in the condition & price range

Do what i do, if i buy things online i close my eyes when i click final button to buy, if im paying in the shops same close my eyes and hand over the cash with tight grip :)

not with guitars but a few pedals that were on clearance or a Stupid Deal of the Day type deal.
Silkyn Super 50 1x12 combo was a bit impulse, or I didnt vet the purchase like I normally (over)do, but I hedged if the amp sucked I could gut it and have some good bones for a build.

OH, Glarry bass guitar for $27 I figured was likely not legit. I rolled the dice, rolled snake eyes but got refunded by ebay with no problems

I bought one of these, purely on a whim fuelled by @Astral Traveler

It's surprisingly good and gets used much more than I expected it to.

That's about all though. Most things are considered for months, if not years, before I will reach for the folding beer vouchers. Ask @Astral Traveler how long it took me to eventually buy the Harley Benton guitar...

Good point about pedals. I buy pedals often just because of a good deal. If I don't use em much I always end up trading for something

Yes, I do believe that a good deal of my gear was purchased impulsively. I don't tend to trade or sell any of it though. Not yet anyway. Probably if I did this more often I would have to move some of it eventually.

mine wasnt that nice---
then my Son was born and it got traded for an ISUZU TROOPER--- which was very ncie for 300k miles -- and that got tradedfor a NEWER ISUZU TROOPER that went 170k miles before the tranny pooed the bed,,,,,,,,

friend of mine had an ISUZU DIESEL P'UP that went 380k miles ......and was still running when he sold it ....they made a HELL of an Engine --

the tranny issue in my second one was because it had a SMALLV-6 CHEVY motor --- (no motor issue) but for some reason the Japanese tranny and the USA engine quit "working together" even after a tranny rebuild...........so that become a Toyota Rav4 and my ISUZU days were over .................................

Hmmm. I have to ponder. Some pedals for sure. I think my second locking whammy guitar was kinda impulse, saw it hanging in the store and the wife said "Hey that's nice..." or such. Took it home, kept it.
Ibanez Prestige something.

The Ibanez Artist AR325 was for sure. I sold it to my brother. Beautiful but toggle in a poor spot. Way less output than any of my LPs. Just seemed useless to me for the most part.

Some of the others likely were. I still have them.
The Traynor YCS100 head qas. Just so versatile and such a good price. I need to play it more.

The other Prestige jumped into my lap, I wasn't plannjng to get it. Same dude also had the 6101 which I wasn't seeking out but sooooo glad I got.
