SG's through the different decades?

36 on the reverb site at present from the 80's

this is nice as well.

The 80's and 90's are the LOWEST volume # for sale on reverb -- under 40 pcs for each decade ! while otehr decades are 150 and over

This guy must be smoking some good stuff over in the UK.

Gibson 1980 "The SG" Electric Guitar in Walnut, Pre-Owned | Sound Affects | Reverb

I got a Standard from 96 , while the old man has 4 different SGs ( 86 Custom, 96 Standard, 96 61 Reissue and 97 60 reissue Les Paul Custom SG). They are all fantastic guitars and were well made. Lots of effort went into the production of them from what i can see. I think that was the era when Gibson began straightening up and refocused on quality after some wild years of designs in the earlier 80s

favor specials and Jr's but man that Custom is Awesome !!

Keef plays that Single pup yellow Gibson & he picks on the fretboard..it invokes a darker neck like tone for rythym strumming with a single pickup guitar..i do that a lot on bluesy type songs..
Yeah, I do that a lot on the LP Junior. It gets a somewhat hollow, woody sound.
I do the same thing, and I love my one pickup guitars (Junior and Esquire), but sometimes there is just no substitute for the mellowness of the true neck pickup sound.

And with an SG, because of the neck tenon, the neck pickup is set closer to the bridge than a LP or Strat for example. Much like the pickup placement on a 24 fret guitar, so this gets close to the SG neck pickup sound.

They are really cool to play and have a completely different sound than the others. But it is strange a lil bit and takes some getting use to with the 3 humbucker layout, specifically when your picking and not trying to gouge the hell out of the middle pickup lol

Mike, is the selector switch also a pot that blends the middle pup in with each setting?

Cool, was playing 2 SG's all day & sure do pick right above the neck pickup much more than i realized. Kinda natual reaction to the woody type tone. good stuff

I found these. They're expensive as hell but nowhere near as expensive as a Gibby, if you wsnt the deep bevels and that stuff.

So, if I sell that one and that one and this one...

From what I remember on his 2, Don, is that they are wired as Bridge, Middle-Bridge, Neck on the 3 way. Kinda strange but thats how Gibson did them on these for some reason, going back to the original 1960 Les Paul Custom SG.

It would've been a lot cooler if they had something like a 5 way from the get go ( going bridge, mid- bridge, all 3, mid- neck and neck) but Gibson always liked to stick to the 3 ways i guess.

I have heard great things about Maybach guitars. Even that they are better than Gibson quality. And they are European made. I have never seen one in person, so I can't say from personal experience, but every review I have seen says they are outstanding.

The reason I asked Mike is this bad boy I bought a few years ago does just that. Never saw a switch selector also being a pot. 3 way switch, neck, both, bridge, but in any position you can blend the middle pup with the selector pot.

Thats awesome it can do that then! And a beautiful guitar by the way! I guess where these were based on the original they kept it the old way but that doesnt mean they couldnt have improved on the design like this lol

Thats the Supra right? Was looking it up, neat guitar. From what i read it had the TogPot like you mentioned that can blend in the middle pickup, which is neat, plus its 24 fret. It said that it also has a piezo pickup under the bridge?
