NFSD Sunn Model T 4x12

My friend who owns a studio in Boston texted me yesterday, and asked “Got a Sunn cab I don’t need. You interested? Free.”

So, I said “sure.” It will probably be a good match for one of my Hiwatt heads, or my Marshall Jubilee bass head if I ever fix it.

Ends up it’s the cab that goes with his Model T head, and it never gets used at the studio. It’s all original, and in excellent shape. Tomorrow night, when I bring it to the bass player’s house for temporary storage, I can give it a test drive.

This thing is massive, and heavy. Much deeper than my Hiwatt cab.

Can’t find any information on these speakers anywhere. It looks like they are definitely their own, and not Eminence made as in later Sunns or Fender Sunns.

I can’t wait to hear what they sound like. Apparently the two jacks on the back are for “in” and “out.” That way you could daisy chain the speakers. With a 4 Ohm cabinet rating for four 16 Ohm speakers, I would be real careful about daisy chasing cabs.

The model is a 412S. So, it’s probably a ‘71-‘75 vintage.

Couldn't find any other codes than the 028-1 stamped on the cone. If there are others, then they're probably under the sticker.

Otherwise, tonight I plugged it in and gave it a nice blasting with my 100 watt JMP and Cipollina SG. It sounds great! With the four EL34s cooking, it has that great "Kerrrranggg!" to it when you hit open chords. I played mellow for a bit to warm it up, but then hit it hard for a bit. No pedals. Just guitar, amp, speaker. Definitely a fun score.

Hey SG Juan... When I look closer at this pic, those speakers look like they have some deep cracks in the surrounds of the cones. They look very brittle, too. Maybe some fresh doping on the light side might reinforce the surround areas.

I did notice some in the original photo. When I think of dope, do you mean the lacquer for coating paper over model airplane wings. Can you even get that stuff anymore?

I'll have to get some of that stuff. There are plenty of old speakers around here. Five 4x12s, an 8x10, and several combos here at the house, then several more cabs at the bass player's house in storage.
I remember researching "speaker dope for sale", and came across a forum discussion where a member said that he emailed Weber speakers and asked about the material they use for the speaker dope. Weber recommended to him...: Weldwood's contact cement!!!!!!!
