NGD: Epi v Gibson...

Here you go, this is a photo of it when first installed. No idea what it says on the other side. Definitely a K73-17 0.033uF, I think from the shape it is the 63V type. It looks very much like the one on ebay except the printing on it is different. Might be batch related though

Come on, post a pic of the whole guitar - you know every loves that guitar; it's a super cool SG.

I think the ones I have as well are the EE...They have been nice quality from that factory..or I have just had good luck....I have maybe 3 from there that I just bond with..
Have had some that are scary close to Gibson . Always get my guitars on how they sound first(pick up driven purchases usually) & how they fit me. Like studio Gibson's & mim strats. Prestige japan Ibanez are crazy good also.

For some reason, I really bond with my Ibby’s......
My fav is an old ART 100 pearl white and it just screams!

I sometimes find myself going to that one alot...I think I got that one after the lawsuit deal, but its still a great guitar and I have gotten my hands on a newer version ART120 and that thing is a nice rig as well for the $.......

I forgot to update this thread after I upgraded the Epi Special; bone nut; Gotoh tailpiece (it was lying around doing nothing...); BK Nantucket in the neck; Peter Florence Voodoo in the bridge.

^ got rid of that bastard MG... Couldn't get a decent sound from it compared to the other two amps (the Yamaha sounded a lot better on the Marshall settings) - maybe there was something wrong with it? Gave it away to a friend...

Stuck a few stickers on it because I want it to be a fun, knock-about, guitar that I can ding, the dog can piss on, etc.

The guitar is nice, plays really well and sounds nice - kinda more pop and thinner treblier (made up word?) rock than the Gibson jnr which has a lot more honk, girth and drive. The tuners hold tune, but the D and G are not as smooth as I'd like, so the nut change helps, but it's not butter... The pickups sound tuneful and sweet, but I wouldn't say either one sounds amazing or as good as the Gibson P90 (considering they are pretty decent pickups, I expected them to be different but as good as or better than the standard Gibson P90; not to my ears). Actually, the Gibson jnr and Epi sit together well as two guitars in a mix, so in the band that I'm in, the other guitar player will probably use the Epi when we do gigs because it's tonally quite separate from the junior.

Here's a shot, as it was on my picture list, of the greenback I put in the Origin 20 - it made a big improvement for me; I can use the creamy grit at lower volumes as well as the overall sound being nicer than the stock speaker across the board:

Thats SWEET!

I bet that does sound better with a speaker swap...
The MG is not a bad small amp, I think the combos just sound better with a speaker swap as well....
I have an old Line6 30w SS that was on the lines of the MG and I put a creamback in it and it sounds quite nice in the home studio....I was thinking about building a 2x12 for the Line6 and it would probably sound quite nice for what it is with better cab and speakers....

Thanks, and I think you're right - it's mostly a speaker issue. I took all the screws off to open up the MG to look at the speaker (maybe put in the 10" V-type jnr that came in the Origin), but the back seemed to be glued on, so I didn't try too hard. I know many folks like their MG heads, so it makes sense that a speaker upgrade would help; if it'd been my only amp then I would have forced the back off and changed the speaker (maybe I should have done that anyways...). Also, the MG was very sensitive to being placed too close to the other amps or the plug being in one way rather than the other (they can be put in either way in Korea, but not sure about the earthing???).

I'm happy with the Origin and happy with the Epiphone. &, the THR10, even if I don't play it for a while, always surprises when I use it - not cheap, but an excellent desktop amp (I also have it plugged into my MacMini, so I get really nice sound on Youtube, watching films, etc).

I think many give the MG’s a bad rap!
The head is not bad either, we have plugged it into one of my 1960 cabs and that thing will tear your face off.....We don’t use the effects on the head, and it takes pedals quite well as far as I am concerned..
Hell when I first started out I would have died for the MG 100h.....I honestly think the MG head sounds better than any line 6 I have plugged into.....
Granted we all like tubes, but for a SS its not half bad......
