Which tube amp should I get?

If I'm using the amp as a clean platform, all my effects including time based ones
are before the amp so to me the effects loop does not matter in that application.

Agreed. In those instances that I am running a clean amp (which, admittedly are quite rare and only happen when I am borrowing someone else's rig) I run everything including time stuff into the front of the amp.

I put pretty much all effects except wah and overdrive in a loop. I even prefer to use the loop when playing clean.

Interesting. I do like having the option of an FX loop and have put in on the "must have" list. I will keep this in mind. Thank you

Yes, I always prefer in the loop. When I do periodically play through an amp as a clean platform it is always a vintage or vintage-styled amp, so no loop. In that case i just put everything out front.
Using my own amp it is 100% in the loop, and since my Mesa has a tube buffer in its loop the amp actually sounds better if there is something there than without.

I've started to really enjoy playing a clean tone, but with the tube screamer activated (but on a low setting) on my Ibanez TSA5.
No pedals, just the tube breakup and the TS.
Sounds pretty good with the hum buckers, but awesome with the P90s and single coils in the strat!

I don't know what Tony is going to say, but for me it is important because I find that time-based effects (delay, reverb, etc) sound like poo in front of a dirty amp. The loop is an absolute must for me if I am getting my nasty from the preamp.
Really agree here. I have an old '81 Marshall JCM 800 combo (4104). One of the best and most rewarding mods I've ever done to any amp was add an FX loop circuit to that old JCM. It upped that amp to another level.
