Hope this is the correct spot for this thread.
Does anyone have any experience with the inexpensive handheld-type stereo recorders like the ones from Tascam or Zoom?
I am looking for one to record some of my jams but do not want to spend a lot of cash. I also don't need anything of super high quality. Just looking for something that is relatively noise free, easy to use, records to .wav or .mp3 format and is cheap.
 
I’ve had a Zoom H2 for years. It still works fine. The newer H2n has a better screen, amongst other things.
That said, if you have an old iPhone, or iPad, kicking around...
The USB adapter and any one of a whole bunch of available mic’s, and interfaces can provide lots of good results...fairly cheap. Also easier to share via email, SoundCloud, Dropbox etc.
You also gain the ability to multitrack with something like that.

I quit in 1992------
at the time (In ALABAMA) smokes where .89 a pack (yes Im old "F" you) ....and they increased the taxes (TAXES) to make a pack 1.09--- I said "FVCK them I am not PAYING ---OVER 1.00 for smokes"--- and quit--- simple-- "FVCK the MAN" was enough motivation.

I started getting set up to record, but have not put it all together yet.
Once again, no time.

Ha! I remember when people were going to move to Canada if cigs went to a $1 a pack.
Wait, was that if the election results were.....?
Oh, wait - $1 pack of smokes! I remember people say they would quit, but didnt.
That was in the mid or late '70's here in NJ I think.

I vape too now, low nicotine content, though i'm not rabid into it as a hobby like some.
They chase some Big Cloud Cool dragon of sorts, or so it seems.

It helps me avoid choking the sh*t out of folks who really do need it.
While I would really like to help out and accommodate them, it just complicates things.
 
I have been looking into the Tascam Dr-05 relatively inexpensive and does enough for what I need, and user friendly. ninjaking you can pick one up for roughly $140 CDN.
 
I just use a GoPro and inexpensive boom mic now and it’s fine for what we want. My Zoom recorder crapped out on me and won’t work now :(
