I have had a fair amount of NGDs in the past few years, but I have not purchased an acoustic since 1984. Needless to say, I am very happy.
So a little story before pics. Somewhere along my guitar trials, I learned that Martins could be brighter than I imagined and that I loved how they played. So the choice for me boiled down to a Taylor 314ce and a Marshal DCPA4. You already know which won.
In making my decision, I went to Sam Ash because they had them both. The choice of the Martin was easy. I told the salesperson that even though the guitar was reduced $200 from $1,725 to $1,550, the (currently closed) place down the block had it for $1,500 regular price, so I was anticipating getting it for around $1,400. Sam Ash would not budge, but the reasoning was that the one in the other store was older. I pointed out that there had not been any changes in the model since then and that he just told me to buy all wood because it gets BETTER with age. Using this logic, wouldn't the older one be better (I know you actually have to play it for it to get better, but it was fun to mess with him)? Anyway, they would not budge and I walked.
I dropped the wife off at Home Goods and went across the parking lot to GC and BAM! The Martin was on sale for $1,250! Karma was on my side baby!!
I hope you liked the story, but probably got impatient like me and scrolled down to he pics before finishing! I am psyched
