Looks like we have come full circle. And it was obtuse that started this.
Since you're throwing the bait out there...
Tom Anderson sells guitars. His rep told me to spend 3K on a similar guitar because neck wood and body style means a different sound. I say the 3K has more to do with that opinion than the wood.Since you're throwing the bait out there...
Your Tom Anderson Raven looks like it has a mahogany body. If the body was made of alder: It will sound different. If the fretboard was made of maple: It will sound different. Change the type of wood on that neck: It will sound different. If you ask Tom Anderson: It will sound different.

... again!
I think it is worth 3K, I am just noting that it is lucrative to sell 3 x $3K by extolling the need for one in each wood typeAnd...
$3K has to do more with cost of labor, materials, and profit. A bad reputation means you can't sell a guitar for that $3K.
And will maple be brighter, and mahogany be darker, and ash the brightest? The argument is not that guitars sound different, only whether it is related to the wood, and even more so in a predictable fashion.I won't be able to tell what kind of wood, but I'll be able to tell that they might sound different from each other.
You have 3 of them?I think it is worth 3K, I am just noting that it is lucrative to sell 3 x $3K by extolling the need for one in each wood type
Yes, but because I am obsessed with guitars, not because of the tonal differences in the wood. I want them all...which is why I am checking into rehab as soon as I get the 2 new guitars I have coming this week...my last horah!!You have 3 of them?
Uhm... Yes... No... Maybe? I'm lost now. But I would believe that maple would be brighter than ash.And will maple be brighter, and mahogany be darker, and ash the brightest? You got lots of wood there, Buckaroo!Yes, but because I am obsessed with guitars, not because of the tonal differences in the wood. I want them all...which is why I am checking into rehab as soon as I get the 2 new guitars I have coming this week...my last horah!!

Jesus, I can relate. I hadn’t bought a guitar in 13 years until I stumbled into this place back in Feb. The UPS guys have been at my place many times each week since with parts, guitars and amps.
