So Anyway...

So anyway....

I made the rounds at a few local shops on the hunt for a decent, passive, cheap, P.O.S bass GUITAR.
Not much to tell though...I didn’t find too many to choose from. I did like this Squier Jazz though...

Plastic still on the guard(mostly). It played well, and with a little set up, would be a nice beater for sure.
The goth T-Bird was not a great player to me...needed some work.

This shop did have one of these though...

I couldn’t resist taking a pic.

So anyway...
While I was out a the little local shops today...
I saw my first Chibson in the wild, for sale in a store.
First off, no pictures...I didn’t wand to freak out the kid working there.
Second...the headstock logo had been removed. So it did not say Gibson anymore.
It was a Black LP Custom with P90s.
The horror.
It would never have passed for real...I would hope. It was hanging tightly with an old Epiphone LP on one side(that looked miles better), and an old Epiphone SG Special on the other(also miles better looking). The no name Custom had a kinda right shaped truss rod cover...really not quite...but it did have only two screws holding it down.
To be clear they were selling it as a no name, cheap LP copy that someone had traded in. Since no logo was there, and it was just so horribly “not even pretending to be right”, I was ok with it.(not that I matter really...I just thought I’d be more wowed the first time I saw one in a shop)
I did not have the slightest urge to purchase it at all. Such an ugly carve on the top... it looked like overheated, wavy, plastic.

One local fellow I sometimes do studio work with ordered a "Chibson" LPC and had it custom made. It had the correct shape/size headstock, correct large 5 or 6 piece split diamond, correct font/size logo, correct Gibson truss rod cavity, correct pot shaft relation to the body, and correct serialization with everything painted over. He's had it inspected several times by curators who are considered experts and they have been fooled, which I agree is somewhat comical. He basically did this just to mess with the cork sniffers. he has a vast collection of vintage Gibsons...

Hard to go wrong with a Squire---Jazz or P either one--- solid affordable kit----thunderbirds aint bad either ----I see they have a GOTHIE one....

Busy day at work today. There are only 2 of us that support this queue, and the other guy is on vacation til Monday. Sp8ctre stopped by to drop off a care package for me, and I returned the favor by sending him off with coffee and rum from Nicaragua. Got just enuff time to feed my face, get back to work, drive home and be ready for on call from 6-9 pm. No rest for the wicked.
