007.JPG 011.JPG Thanks Bocca69 for sharing these pictures, I see some great work there. That Pitts is a real beauty. When I see these planes I know the work that has gone into them. Most people have no idea of what's underneath the covering and the paint. Months and sometimes in some cases years. We have a guy in our club who just finished after 20 yrs a Lancaster Bomber with a nine foot wingspan all the turrets, cockpit, canopy etc etc was all hand made. An Amazing Model! You need to jump in and get wet give it a go. You will never have a better chance than you do now to get into the Hobby. Heres a few pics from one of the mall shows we had a couple of years

Sure is a lot of work...and craftsmanship. I've seen many many of them made. I have admiration for those who can built these crafts. I have also seen many fly to their demise. Unfortunately, it's sad, but sometimes entertaining.
The "Geezer squad" goes out in full force looking for parts of the wreckage throughout the woods. Every now and then, they come back for a chain saw.....look up!!
 
Every time I see that F4U in your signature, I think about Major Boyington. He lived in Fresno after WW2 and one day as a kid, I wrote him a letter to tell him he was one of my heroes. I addressed the letter to "Major Gregory Boyington USMC - VMF-214 C/O Postmaster, Fresno, California. I included our phone number. (He actually retired as a Colonel)

Couple of days later, Mom says, " Robert, come to the phone. Its Major Boyington. "

He was a really cool guy. He put up with all my questions and he gave me his number. I used to call him on his birthday. One year, Mom drove me up and I gave him a model of an F4U for his birthday. I'm sure the hand painted VMF-214 markings looked horrific, but he was a good sport. He looked it over, tosseled my hair and told my Mom, "Ma'am, you got a good kid there."

Sadly, he passed in January, 1988.

My dad, who was an air force radio tower guy in Fairbanks before I was born, use to build cox type model plains. Hey built tethered controlled and pendulum controlled. The pendulum controlled sounded cool, all though I didn't get to see one in action. Evidently you started the plan up and it would climb on its own in a big circle and when the motor gave out due to lack of gas it'd glide back down in a big circle...
 
My second son texted me and wants to know if I want to get into flying RC airplanes with him.

He’s got his eye on a 1.5 meter Cessna. I’ve never done this.

My Son and I almost bought the U571 Movie Prop a few years ago...200 feet long and 600 tons with 4 Cummins Diesels. I have a lot of cool photos of it from when we inspected it in Malta Harbour...including some behind the scene images from the filming.
 
Ok, so I can't tell. Is it a glider of sorts?. I see a prop, but it looks to be too narrow for a motor (from this angle)
I also see wires....for charging? Don't see any servo??
Do tell. Another angle?

Yep servos are installed. Its a hot dogger does all the slick moves. Servos very small.
 
I have a remote control UFO (made from a mylar balloon) and a couple of remote control helicopters.

Mine are just cheap Chinese plastic & aluminum stuff. Two small IR toy helecopters for inside the house and a larger RF helicopter for outdoor playing. Nothing like the stuff you do. You build and fly, I buy and crash. I lost the RF just after I bought it. Went flying out of range and out of my sight over the neighbor's house. I looked all over but did not find it until the next fall almost a year later. It was stuck in the tree 2 houses over and had been hidden by the leaves. They had a party in their back yard and one of the guests spotted it. The owner of the house remembered how I was looking for it a while back so they got it out of the tree and brought it home to me.
 
I had a larger RF helicopter Shannon got me for Christmas.......it was very nice........but I didnt have the patience for it-----I rarely sit still for much other than guitars.......and even that -----I lo...er......what was I saying?

How cool is that!!:)(y) There is a lesson to be learned there, join a club near you and take some training its well worth it. If I was nearby I would look after you, no problem.
