Carve top

Working on a LP. I do enjoy carving by hand ibex planes and eastern maple. I reversed the bookmatch. It's looking good so far.

Will do... Those little finger planes heat up pretty good. I have rest my thumb a day or two.."I got blisters on my fingers...."

I dremeled myself into a 2 day finger buzz recently, and my soldering iron has left scars (physical and emotional)!!

Instead of having a perfectly bookmatched top.. which I couldn't get from these pieces. I put the wider more pronounced flames on the out side angled in towards the center. Once stained burst style ,the miss matched top won't even be noticable.
The awsome burst will be highlighted from the edge's instead of the center seam....I hope....

This LP style is getting closer to the finish line, final top carving ,neck shaping, wiring, sanding then oil. I dunno if I'm gonna stain it yet or keep it natural then stain the back,sides and headstock black.


What color would yous all suggest????

Thats how she staying ,has 2 coats of tru oil on it now.
Black hardware.
Neck ,body and side will all be natural.....But Im liking the idea of a faded red.

That's a good observation. The contouring and the grain work together in such a way as to make a burst unnecessary...even a distraction.

Thanks ,that s what I aim for in a carve. I always liked the way a LP carve highlights any color. Particularly the older goldtops. I try and, over carve, when I have enough top wood to do so.
I want my guitar tops to jump out from any others hanging on the wall.
It seams to be working just with a couple coats of oil so far.

3 coats of oil now.
I hit the sides and the Flame Maple just popped.
Now the hard part is waiting for that to cure in the Northeast winter climate.
