So...Out of ALL the Guitar Gods...

Peter green great player whom Gary admired . Gary more a great player in his own right But neither could whip Old Freddie King LOL
They admired and respected Freddie too. Freddie would take no prisoners you stepped onstage with him you better been on your A+
game. Paul kossoff anther great vibrato from hell . All those guys have there strong points and many of there styles steeped in Rythym and blues
Kinda like Stevie he could surprise ya and play some jazz and even do some shredding but his forte the blues . But Beck can play blues rockabilly jazzbut he takes things to another level
when he does Beck there is almost no one who can even come close.

I agree Frank, Beck is a unbelievable palyer...the thing is he is just so far out there with some of his stuff that it's hard to listen to. It's
too complex and it's not satisfying to my ear when it gets that complicated...I love his Blow by Blow album and Wired even more so...

Like Eric his stuff can be so technical its hard for some to appreciate but ya get up close and really watch the man
you know few can do what he does as well as he does. This is a killer watch it thru and tell me ya didn't like it
Sonny and Eric

I like em', but that's Eric Johnson...not Clapton...

Two albums that took me to another level as a kid I listened to them a lot . Me and my best friend have seen hundreds of shows together
and as many alone or with other friends he said to me awhile back ya know I just never realized just how good Beck is till seeing him
up close and live. You ever listen to any Sonny Landreth crazy slide maybe the king of slide

I have also seen a lot of shows...if you can name them I've most likely seen them at least once. I've seen Beck twice, but overall I just don't
connect with him. As for Clapton I don't see the attraction at all and I've seen him live once too...

Start naming guitar player go ahead from A-Z I I have seen 9 outta 10 of them maybe 99 outta 100 of them many in up close and personal in bars clubs smaller arenas .
I can tell as far as guitar any of those same guys who are legitimate players would tell you Beck can eat them alive you may not like or understand his style
but trust me Beck is indeed a master wizard among many Harry potter wannabes LOL . Better yet go watch and Record Live at Ronnie scotts
pick a song any song he does and try to play it . I think you might have a new found respect ask Billy Gibbons what he thinks about
Beck as him if Beck deserves to considered a Master guitarist I already know this answer.
Frank, the question related to my OPINION about who I LIKE. This means I am always right and I always win the debate. Me no likey. Game over.

Sorry Chili---of all the "OLD SCHOOL ROCK GODZ" I gotta say Townsend never did anything for me....the who in general was just IMHO Holding back the OX (lol) --who I list as a Guitar GOD---FYI
but No really I have always appreciated the talent--- and the level of fame and hit records and all that of the WHO--- but their songs and Townsends playing in particular....never grabbed me

If we're talking best all time god, who is always ranked on top of this list.
Then I have to say 100% Clapton. I just don't get it. He's always listed in the top five. Seriously? Just don't see it.

Dayum, I went to bed and this thread EXPLODED. Sumn like 20 added replies.
That's ok Adrian. I was messin with Goldie. See my previous message.

Which brings me to another Guitar God no one has mentioned disliking yet,
Carlos Santana.

As for me, like I started out saying, I like various artists but to varying degrees ranging from 1 to 10 depending on the amount of material I find listen worthy vs their works I can take it or leave.

I own WIRED, my only Beck material. I can't remember any songs off it. But an album bought around the same time is the Pat Travers Go For What You Know. That poop is ingrained in my brain forever.

That doesn't mean Beck sucks in my mind, I just never got hooked like this catchy number did. I can see Ray's train of thought, like I said, lots of Clapton's stuff was just meh to me, but like the Cream stuff I really dug.

Check out Pat's Rhythm section, Mars Cowling on bass and None other than Nicko McBrain on the kit. What a ride he's had, Travers to Iron Maiden.

Ray, Another guitar God I "can't Can't" stand is Derek St. Holmes. ( see the double negative there )

Another unsung rhythm guitar God in my opinion. Pretty damn good singer too.

Hey Baby is a great song to display his chops
