I have also been working in IT since 1994 where I participated in the launch of EarthLink back in the pioneer days, the wild wild west on the information super highway. For the past several years I've been working in the digital security arena for a major player in this field. I work with engineers, programmers, business owners, managers and end users. I too have worked with any many types of people both nice and not so nice. I'm fortunate now to be able to select the type of people that I associate with. I'm fortunate now that I get my paycheck from a company that I respect, working for and with owners that I respect, coworkers that I respect and customers that I respect. When I have spent hundreds of hours building this place, I expect to share my time here with like minded people that I respect. I started hand coding in notepad and watched the interweb grow into a plethora of WordPress websites just to be replaced with Facebook and Instagram where everyone can be an influencer with there smartphone who think they are l33t. I built servers on Linux Redhat decades ago. So maybe we are not so different from our working environment and experience on the digital highway. However we may have a difference in opinion on how we greet people when invited into their home.

I genuinely also think that 'hardcore' engineers are not necessarily 'antisocial' people, though there may be some overlap. The fact that one works with machines day in, day out certainly can take its toll. If I used to come in to work in a lousy mood and swear at the systems I was dealing with - it made zero difference. If you're in the engine room long enough, your social skills can become a little rusty.

We've certainly some shared history here, the three of us (maybe more). Surely, though, having worked with other engineers - whether you respect them or not - you must have run into some rather "unusual" and perhaps even socially less skilled people? I know that I learned a thing or two from people I absolutely couldn't get on with however hard I tried. Yet I had immense respect for their knowledge, experience and capabilities. This is a slightly different setting, it's your 'house', your rules and you've welcome both Vin and myself inside. We're not on a job, that's clear. Still, from that experience that I assume you've had too, let's try to ignore our differences and focus on our shared skills and interests.

Let me be very clear, my feathers aren't ruffled. It takes a lot more than that, and I can take honest criticism, too. What you're effectively saying is that you're sorry that I joined, together with a bunch of other decent (and some likely less decent) people.
I like to think of myself as a fair kinda guy. If you can tell me what I've done wrong, I will genuinely take a good look in the mirror and re-evaluate my deed or statement that you disliked. Honestly.

See, I don't believe in 'micro aggressions'; if you've got a problem with someone, tell them. That's how I treat others and how I like to be treated myself. I see the little stabs from BlackSG91, but until there's a clearly articulated point there's no point in engaging.

@BlackSG91 , the same applies to you - if you feel I've been a jerk, all I ask is that you tell me why or what I did for you to reach that conclusion.

It’s not directed at you. I had one four sentence interaction with Vin, and he spouted nonsense clearly intended to alienate. “Sense of humor?” No dice. He’s a jerk, and seems to be working hard to make a rep for himself here. Sorry if you felt insulted.

All good, I have a thick skin from the heat in the engine room, hehe. I don't think it's particularly beneficial to keep calling someone names but I'm not in charge.

You're not a jerk at all...in fact the opposite. All MF members except for one in particular have been pretty good so far. I'd say that you are a good bloke after all. :)

Seamus, you read me wrong, brother. I have zero against you, and take you for a good guy so far. I've given you a number of likes. You're just used to regular personalities who fall in line. I'm none of that.

I'm not playing a "web character" either, as you say. I'm the real deal. Same person I've been on the MF for 14 years, same person to my wife of 30 years, my family, friends, and anyone else.

Chrissakes, do I really have to keep explaining myself all fkn month?

Get to know me, if you have any fks to give. Look at some of my other posts. I like to laugh.

So I ask you to not get him riled up with those kind of statements on a public forum. I have taken notice of his online activities HERE ON TTR and that is all I will judge his behavior on. I have also made him aware of his abrasiveness displayed to me on TTR. He will be given the benefit of doubt here and if he decides that he prefers to remain a member of other forums rather than be a productive and friendly member here, time will tell. Everyone here needs to understand that management here reserves the right to deny service to anyone that can't play nicely with others. This applies to new and old members here!

I come here to escape the drama out there. Many members here find this to be their happy place. I intend to keep this a happy place for all.

Thank you WM.

For the sake of saying, I would like to remain invested here, as well as the MF. I like the interface here, and look forward to making new friends, while also remaining committed to long-time friends still on the MF. Perhaps we can call it "dual citizenship" at this point.

Regarding abrasiveness, (which I refer to more as assertiveness), I'll tone it down. That's a promise to both you and the forum members.

All I want is to talk about gear and share a lot of laughs.

Are you aware of how many of us had similar thoughts when ST's disgruntled members such as yourself "spilled" in here?

And yet......nobody's here calling you or anyone else jerks.
