Lately, I haven't done much but guitars. Yesterday, I decided to put some new stuff on the Mustang that I had laying around....New front bumper and amber appliques for the driving lamps.

Next weekend is new struts/shocks/ball joints and alignment.

The following weekend its differential time with new posi unit and new Ford 4.30:1 gears... :-)

Care to decipher your personalized license plate?

It has a dual meaning - the plate was a 50th birthday gift from my wife. She is a tiny Latina from Nicaragua, and when we met, she nicknamed me "Oso," Spanish for "Bear."

I am pretty slow in general, whether at home or while driving, so she is always saying, "C'mon Oso! we gonna be late!" and that is where the phrase came from.

However, one of my friends recently interpreted it to mean "Si-mon Oso," which, for our non-Latino friends, is kinda like saying "Yeah, Cool Oso," in Spanish street slang.

It's a lot of fun.

:)

The first Mustang to have the "Oso" plate. It was destroyed by a hit and run driver on the I-5/210 connector near Sylmar, California, in February, 2016.

Photo taken outside the passport office in San Diego on a Monday afternoon in August, 2014...amazingly, at this one moment, there was no traffic or pedestrians in the background.

Did the 4.30 gear install last Saturday, replacing the 4.10's. New posi clutches, all new bearings, and seals.

Took several trial assemblies to get the gear mesh correct. The final set up used a .028" pinion shim with 15 in/lbs of preload, and a .0271" shim on the left carrier bearing with a .0275" on the right.

The backlash spec is .008" to .012" with new gears. I was able to get .010" on the money.

Next was a factory Ford GT500 aluminum cover and vent relocation kit:

Next, modify the tune for the 4.30:1 gear so the speedometer will read correctly:

Job complete!

Dang u sumn, Robert.

I'm crazy...I got bored a while back and decided to swap out both camshafts for something hotter...

Thing sounds like a funny car at idle.

I guess growing up in a racing family makes this easy for me. I been doing it since I was a kid...

And this was done in my garage with only the following tools:

1. 3/8" ratchet with 3" extension

2. 7mm, 8mm and 10mm sockets

3. 15mm deep socket for cam phaser

4. 3/8" drive inch pound torque wrench

5. Timing chain tensioner wedge tool

Plus I don't suspect you deal with too much RUST out there, Robert. ALMOST every car I ever work on here in the east is riddled with the crap which makes working on cars 10X longer a process.
