Nice.
We didn't get to play at all in 2025. Pretty lame...

We've been kinda limping along. I'd like to do 9 or 10 shows a year. In 2025 we did five, up from only two in 2024.

2026 is our band's 30th year, so I'm hoping to record our fourth DIY full-length CD (which, like the prior ones, should sell well into the dozens) and hopefully parlay the Anniversary into a few more shows.

DIRTY THIRTY VOX AC30 logo.jpg

The above anniversary logo is a visual pun since the amp is an AC30. ;)

We just collectively had lots on the go and live in 3 different comminities so it's harder to get together. Sadly the drummer did not want to do a show in Sept outside, too much golfing. Kinda peed me off.
I am working at getting us at least a couple in bars here in the city this year.
5 shows would be decent for me, summer does get busy.

I like the logo. We just finished year 21.

Here's another shot from that same August 2025 show. Note that I'm playing an SG, not the Les Paul Classic in the photo posted above.

I played in two different bands that night. This is a side band I'm in. So I'm not sure if that night counts as two shows or one. ;) Playing through a little Fender Super Champ XD 1x10, unmic'd. (There are no drums in this band currently, unfortunately.) For my main full band with drums, I used an entirely different rig, a much louder Sovtek MiG 50H Tube Midget 50W tube head into a DIY 2x12 (also unmic'd) cab.

So even in a larger venue or wider stage you don't mic the cab for wider coverage? I always mic miine just to even it out. As long as it works, just curious.

We mic when we can. But a large percentage of our gigs are benefits (which always seem to be clusterfecks, often on multiple levels) or other DIY affairs. In those sitches, mic'ing cabs just interferes with getting the vox heard, because the PAs are typically very basic, and most often underpowered. I looked over our gigs list from last year, and only one show out of the 5 had mic'd cabs. We're used to using stage volume for guitars, and mics for vox, maybe with a kick and sometimes snare if we can manage.

Larger venues aren't interested in us. ;)

So far my Kemper and Kabinet cover all/most of our gigs.
Most of our gigs are at our studio which can handle 80+ people.
The Kabinet covers the venue perfectly with no mic required.
Other/larger venues I send the Kemper output to FOH and use the Kabinet for my stage monitor.
Works a treat, and very versatile!
Crappy photo with the fan obscuring my small rig...

Slightly better...

I guess what I'm saying is that the small 1x12 Kabinet has a wonderfully wide sonic reach. Very good...

Wow that sux. Not even kick drum? At minimum we would want vox and kick even in the smallest establishments.. Yeah played a few like that too!

The smallest venue here we play, technically a pub, has a small Bose system with just the vox and I think kick micd. So what do they do? They run a line for the BASS (like bass frequencies don't occupy an entire room themselves) to FOH but NOT guitars and it is L shaped - half the audience doesn't even face the guitar amps. I had taken to bringing 2 - 1x12s and setting them in an L fashion as some people could here nothing of guitar. It is a quiet room, very low levels.
Often not much sense used in some venues.

That's in the studio? What a super set up, holy crap!!!

Here's a good shot of one of our un-mic'd backlines from this year. I don't know that the kick was even mic'd. My rig on right. 50W Sovtek Tube Midget MiG 50H head into a DIY 2x12 cab with a pair of V12 Celestion 60W speakers. Les Paul Studio Doublecut.

Not much room on that stage! Anyone far right would be sorta beside your cab, no? I also often use my combos so open back.
No mic on kick.
Man. Even if it isn't really loud at all, ya gotta feel the kick IMO.
But what can ya do? Not your circus, not your monkeys.
