Gibson SG is the perfect slide machine.

The LP? That’s my ‘05 R9 in Faded Tobacco Burst.

Beautiful Les Paul. As much as I don't need any more guitars (I need to sell some), I keep thinking I would like another Les Paul. Don't know if I'd like a really well worn R9, or maybe go for the Gold and get an R4 or R7. Or to stay on track with the thread, spend the money on a real '61-'63 Les Paul (SG) Standard.

Since slides themselves were mentioned, these are the three that have worked best for me over the years.

L-R:

This was a piece of steel pipe that I turned both the I.D. and O.D. on a lathe until it fit comfortably on my ring finger. I use this on my Dobro or acoustic guitars. I like the sound of a hefty piece of steel on acoustic guitar strings.

A Stevens Steel which gets used on my lap steels.

The good ol' Coricidin bottle for electric guitars. It was tough finding one that fits on my ring finger. I found a second and bought it to have a spare.

I like using the slide on my ring finger because I found that by using the index or middle fingers to fret behind the slide and the pinky to fret in front of the slide, I have many options for making chords when in open tuning. I usually use open D or E depending on the guitar (because I'm a Duane disciple), and it's easier to be able to make minor, 6th, and diminished chords that way.

These are a mix of cast offs, gifts, or experiments. The two chunky glass ones are good to use on my ring finger. A friend gave them to me because they were too big for him. The narrow glass one barely fits my pinky. I should maybe give that one to my friend. Then the steel one on the right is a bearing race. I thought it was pretty comfy on my pinky, but found it a bit loose. It doesn't fit my ring finger though. It stops at the knuckle. I have a bunch more in a cookie tin.

It ain't my birthday but I think it's about time to buy myself a potential NGD thread. I'm open to recommendations for pups, tuners, colors etc before I make a final decision.
I had spent the past couple of months searching, made a decision, and then all of sudden my old brain remembered that I already do have a kinda sorta SG that has been hiding out in a closet for many years.

Remembering that was like a skunk turning into the wind saying..."Ah yes! It all comes back to me now!"

I used this guitar on a couple of recordings strung normally and strung Nashville.

I bought this guitar in 1990 for $100 from a guy who needed cash.

It ain't a Gibson SG, but this old 1980 Westbury Maple SG...set neck...w/ Dimarzio pups is a fine guitar. Google it.

I have the same pick guard on my G400. You have me wondering what it’d look like without it.
There's no routing or wiring underneath, just polished wood, as opposed to cheap plastic.

My LP has the guard removed for similar reasons.
