What Makes Your #1 Your #1?

I bought it a few years ago and it quickly became my #1 for one reason only: the neck just feels "right" to me. Don't really have a number 1. Too many good choices.
I guess one of my favorites would be my first guitar, probably because I had more years with it than any other.
1978 Goya L6-S copy I got new that xmas.

I bought a Candy Apple Red BC RICH BICH with money my mom left me when she passed. I only remember the date because I got the funds when I turned 21. I've taken apart, stripped down, and painted this guitar so many times it's amazing there's any wood left. Swamp Ash body, Kramer neck, EMGs, Floyd Rose, Schaller tuning machines... I named her Yolanda, after my mom. Y. Caramico. I've built and own so many guitars. She's still my #1.

Long time no chat Ku2, bitter sweet story but cool how you stayed to the task and built your #1.
 
Since I got rid of the PCB wiring and put in an RS Guitarworks harness, ditched the 490 bridge pickup and put in a Wolfetone Fenris, I think it's safe to say that my 2021 Satin Honeyburst Les Paul Tribute has clinched the #1 spot. Why? It has the best feeling neck I've ever played, like it was custom made to fit my hand, and now it also sounds incredible. I always liked this guitar, but now love this guitar!

I wore out my first #1 received 1972 1961 Les Paul SG Standard sold the husk
next #1 1961 Fender Stratocaster still have it got it 1984
next #1 1989 PRS Custom 24 ten top sold removed the sweet switch and installed a tone control
next #1 2002 Gibson Les Paul Standard Custom Shop 1960 RI copy of my real early 1960 Les Paul Standard 1959 neck series one to mint to play investment guitar
sold it got my wife a house in Aspen told her my other EX wives got a free house what makes you different just buying you one up front less painful in the long run
now 2024 got 4 PRS guitars should take the rest of my life to ware out two have rosewood necks and two have the same neck profile as the 1989 Custom 24
I sold funny how things go did score a early 1965 SG Standard in 2016 to replace the first #1

I dig these threads. Browsing other people's gear is enjoyable. Lot's of very cool gtrs here.:celebrate:

My #1 is pretty special. To me anyway. For some very good reasons. It's a 1979 LP Deluxe - gifted to me from my dad in 1981 when I was 12. He died just a few year later. There's a lot I can say about where this gtr has been, what it's been through, the crazy gigs, repairs, modifications, etc (including being stolen and subsequently recovered by police from a crack house). It's the only worldly possession that I would feel strongly about not parting with. I'm thinking of having it cremated with my body if it can be arranged. Anyway.... yeah..... very special guitar.:) After 44 years - I still play it (almost) every day.

Somehow, I missed posting my #1 to this thread. So here goes......

My #1. The Ovation guitar I purchased new in Sept of 1974. A couple months before my future bride and I started dating. And yes. Both are still in my life. Now..... in reality. The 12 string purchased in '73 is the guitar I was playing when the two of us got interested in each other. That was summer of 74. So as is suggested. The guitar player does get the girl.

For me it’s playability.

I like to grab full barre chords up n down the neck. And arpeggio too. So it’s all in the set up and neck feel for me.

Some guitars are easier to play than others. Those that give me trouble, are always being tweaked. Fractions of an inch here and there. To lower the strings without buzz.
