Pretty funny

English please, Grant

What is this hot linking? How does one do it so they can contribute further funny things they find and want to share? And in the contrary, what are the adverse results of anyone uploading images here vs being able to do it elsewhere?

If you find something on another site, copy the location of the image and when inserting an image into your post, put the link to the image instead of uploading it to the server.

When the server crashed a couple of years ago it was because of too many files being hosted on the server and we ran out of space.

I use imgur.com.
Upload image.
Click on the ellipsis (...), and select "get share links".
Under "BBCode (Forums)". click "copy link".
Then just paste in thread post.

Thanks Grant.

I will save the forum space by not participating in the Basement, or this thread with Hotlinks since this requires far more complex tasks than I am willing to exert.

Come to think of it. I'll do likewise in the rest of the forum. No sense contributing to the detriment of the functioning of the board when others may be harmed by my doing so.

We can post pictures of our gear and upload them

If you right click on the image and select copy image location, you can then paste that into the insert image link. Done deal. I have no problem posting pictures that are actually pictures of gear or whatever.

The problem was with people uploading videos and pictures in this area. Rather than load the server down with jokes, I have restricted this area so we do have room to post pics of members gear and other music related stuff as this site is focused on music, not jokes. I do have the joke section as an add on accessory to this music site, however the main purpose of this site is for music, not jokes.

Grant, I am not upset or irrational about your choices on how you set things up. I also understand the need for limits of storage, band width or whatever and how it has a bearing on past, current and future needs of the forum. That is why I said I would refrain from the type posts that eat up resources. My initial post was as simple as me being the KISS method type guy, not knowing why we can do one thing everywhere else but not able to do it here. Now I understand that it is because of the parameters you've established. If my memory is accurate, I think I have only frequented this " Bathroom" area fewer times than I can count on one hand before attempting to post a picture of something funny. No big loss on my end.

On a similar vein from another Forum site I occasionally go to is super annoying. There, I can upload and or copy and paste, or " attach pics" from my laptop's storage, or smartphone storage in the normal rooms everyone can post in. BUT myself and other members cannot post pics in PM's.
This presented a major hurdle to me when I would have questions about the layouts, components, schematics of amp circuit boards in PM's with specific members who are experts in electronics/ amp building and servicing. As they were helping me learn electronics, servicing of my amps, this became tenuous and a huge obstacle to my advancement and repairs. I got totally frustrated because in TTR this was simple and I could easily post my pics to folks like AmpMadScientist, IvanH, Thatbastarddon, DonP, etc, until one of the members got offended or pissed off with TTR and took his ball and went to that other site. He was a huge help in schooling me on my Marshalls, In time, he even left there which sucks.

I played along with these forums when they wanted us to use Hosting sites like Photobucket, Imgur etc. But when PB pulled their SH about pay to play, I loaded as many pics as I needed to onto Imgur and never returned to Photobucket ever again. BUT, even IMGUR kind of sucks because as usual, they "upgrade" or change their " features" and as always, it complicates the KISS method I get familiar with. This leads me to use Imgur less and less, and in case anyone mentions Apps, or the CLOUD, OH NO, F that BS. I can barely remember my own name let alone how to find anything in a cloud or even find the cloud to begin with. So, for now as I said, I will simply refrain from participating in the Bathroom section of the forum, and limit my postings to judicious postings of significant pics, in order to do my part to limit memory sucking posts elsewhere.
