Guitars That Changed Your Life:

Don, do you remember who took the row boat pic?
I used to row n fish on our reservoir as a kid on the rental boats the fishing center provided. Electric motored ones rented for more $$$ so I'd get row boat instead.

Yes, that was taken by my cousin Osla. She was the same age as me, and we did most things together. That was in a fjord, and the trip to town involved a sea crossing - a few miles of North Atlantic.

Sounds wild, Don.

Over here, a running joke is a boat is a big hole you throw your money into.

Ah, that joke over here is standing fully clothed under a cold shower tearing up fifty pound notes. But back then the boat was simply a means of transport - a necessity. For the whole summer it was essentially mine. I took anyone where they needed to go, and a couple of times a week I would take it out into the ocean and long-line for fish. I'd usually come back with about 150 pounds of cod and halibut. Some was salted, some frozen and the smaller ones we ate straight away.

Don, your youth has a similar ring to it as mine, except for locale and era it happened in. I am glad for you the enjoyment you had that summer and beyond, boat wise.
I never aspired to have any type a boat bigger than a 16 foot aluminum john or v hull boat I could lake or reservoir fish on, so the joke of high cost never fit my scenario.

However, flash forward to 2008 and I got an incredible gift via my bank.
One day driving to Baltimore, my phone rang and the voice on the other end told me she might have just made my day.
When I asked how, she said I had won their contest. I didn't have to ask, I was stupid but asked anyway.
"What did I win?" She said a dream vacation for 4. I then said " WOW, where can I go?"

She said I could go to Disney for a week or Lake Tahoe, or on a cruise for about 7 days, 8 nights.
I didn't even remember entering but then it hit me, I had been prompted by one of my teller friends to put my name in the box "over there"

Long story short I asked my manager friend where she'd go if she were me. She said ALASKA.
It blew my mind I could go to ALASKA on a cruise all paid for. And that is what we did, I took 3 buddies and had the time of my life.
Hard to describe it too, but that motion of the big cruise ship left a feeling in my head, legs etc that was sort of addictive. The boat would dock for excursions and I'd feel like I was swaying just standing still. After returning home and that feeling disappearing, I really missed it, HAHA

Alaska would have been my choice too, that must have been amazing. I seem to spend my life alternating between places that are far too hot and far too cold, so Alaska is right in there.

I think I may be on the look-out for "the box over there" from now on. You prove it really can happen. Nice going!

My 1983 Strat Elite. Fueled by a love for Eric Clapton's playing and his guitar "Blackie", I began begging my parents for this guitar. Although they said it was too expensive for a beginner, I convinced them that it was worth the extra $$ as it would stand the test of time. It has. I gave it a fret level last night and it plays better than ever.

John Mayer does not have feelings. He is a master narcissist and poop chute supreme. He still plays a mean guitar though.

Looking at this photo brought back memories...I remember sharing the stage with a few somewhat famous folks as a guest....maybe no one quite so iconic, but humbling nonetheless...
