Amplifier Tone - Another Fascinating Jim Lill Video

He didn't exactly say they were irrelevant. He did clarify toward the end that if some things only affect the sound 1% or 5%, but other things are more like 80 - 90% of an influence, maybe we should expend less attention to those things that have less of an effect and more attention to those things that have more of an effect (my paraphrase).
My objection is that he seems to dismiss the possibility of any variance above and beyond what one hears in a static situation.
'Let's see if we can hear a difference...' basically implies that if there were any significant difference, we'd be hearing it then and there.
But results in the field can differ from what happens under controlled conditions. In fact, they almost always do.

I get the practicality of focusing mainly on the biggest determining factors.
It's just that I feel some of the things he's decided are less important actually are pretty significant.

I'll spend the rest of my time doing this...

We do bird feeders, too. I normally have two seed feeders and a suet block going, plus a couple of hummingbird feeders.

We have lots of cardinals, which is really cool. We get a variety of other finches, as well as a regular visitation of mourning doves. This past summer was pretty active with the hummingbirds. My wife also keeps a flower bed that the hummingbirds visit, too.

Very good point.

The "Blue Cardinals" (officially called Stellar's Jay) are my personal favorite.

Some of these birds will land on me when i am filling the feeder.

I've learned that plugging in and playing live changes everything. Your preconceived notions all just melt away in a live band scenario. All those nuances we struggle to hear in a headphone comparison, no longer exist.

Just play.

I will totally agree with you there!

110%!

At one point, I was pretty self-conscious about "going live" with my aged and obsolete Line6 X3 Live. I was intimidated by all the various internet forum (not TTR) declarations of "that amp model doesn't sound like the real thing" or whatever.

However, when joining this band, I had to go with what I had and being able to do a quick setup on some small stages pretty much made using my humble processor essential. I didn't have the time or money to get something more up-to-date. Well, I could have afforded something newer, but I'm not dipping into savings just for more guitar gear. I save up for that stuff.

What I have discovered, quite happily, is that it doesn't matter if some particular model sounds exactly like the real thing - whether it's an amp model, speaker model, effect model, or whatever. When people are jumping on the floor and smiling and singing along to the tunes you're playing, you realize that no one cares at all if the Twin Reverb model I'm using or if the Plexi model I'm using sounds just like the real thing in an A/B test. What matters is if I can create a sound that fits the song.

And, if the whole band is loud, all the better!

So far, my old, but rugged and reliable X3 hasn't let me down and it keeps cranking. Letting go of barely perceptible nuances has saved me a lot of money and time.

You got it, Man!

My most "asked to borrow" amp is my Line-6 Spider 2, HD-75.

Go figure!!!!

I plug a Dean V with SD screaming demon bridge or SG 490/490 & SG 61 zebra into Orange TH 30 into greenbacks or V30 or type V for layering in mix. All that gear i had, was great learning experience but basically its on me the player to make it happen..The fun is in the making of the music & the band experience. So oversaturated with media bombardment of the "next great thing"& people arguing who never recorded or played live... who can shred but not play in a band as a team.. the more i stay off the internet..the faster my car goes & more music gets made...all in good fun but social media has destroyed regular life...

You want Tone..Look no further..
