Help with proper digital tone

Here ya go Chili---MIND WARP FROM HELL---- these guys explain it...... they even take into account things like humidity and dew fall etc......... a "wall of Marshalls" doesnt...

Here is something "fun" -- I like "dicking around with" --- and it tkaes moments-- to CLICK in ...... would take THOUSANDS of $ -- way more space and wires and connecting .... to make in "real life" here on the farm and then I wouldnt be able to use it but a few times a year....without pissing off neighbors-- pets-- or spouses....

but I can do this in under 3 minutes.....and SMILE................ and man .... listening to your tone in stereo ... digital (practically recorded studio quality) in your home anytime.....
sorry I find that to be a giant WAD OF FUN

Yup. It needs speakers.

These work pretty good.

Sorry to pick at nits,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, my smarter than Einstein engineer man, smitty,

So this is why ( I duck in case lightning is going to strike me) when I attended my last few RUSH concerts, I could not hear anything but MUD in the mix? I mean Neil's drums were muddy, I could barely hear Geddy's Bass, and Alex's sound was nowhere near as awesome as vintage 1980-1984 Rush was? I really and truly remarked to my blind friend ( also a guitar player and as we know blind people have heightened other senses) that I would think Rush would have decent sound men, who could figure out how to make them sound halfway decent at the venue. I thought, they had to know what they were doing after 40+ years. Maybe it was these models of things that fouled up the experience my ears heard.

lol well ask an audience participant at a Nita Straus --- Metallica-- Steve Vai concert if they FELT that chest pounding feeling Chili ......

the pedals (set up by the macbook or chromebook ) STack up rather good playing Rams stadium live ................. but hey shes only a girl...........whats she know??

Nita runs a pedal straight to house...

Metallica and many others use axefx (and other brands) live .... sorry Mike no offense but it "stacks up" -- stacks up to LOADS of cash they save not lugging giant amps around ....... ;)
a few other professional stadium level touring musicians using fractal
  • John Mayer. John Mayer uses the Axe-Fx III both live and in the studio, including some standout moments on his latest album Sob Rock. ...
  • The Edge. ...
  • Steve Vai. ...
  • John Petrucci. ...
  • Misha Mansoor. ...
  • Dweezil Zappa. ...
  • Alex Lifeson. ...
  • Neal Schon.
I can find other proof of other systems being used. but the point is the "its no good live" argument does not hold water because it is and it has been for many tours and many shows....and the most important part...........those in the audience didnt know....or care......

I am beyond even arguing the "merits" of "IF" its good enough ....... because it is --- it has been its touring -- its gigging -- its recording music we all know we all love and we have all heard and enjoyed.
I recall Smitty went to the Trans Siberian Railroad concert........ I do not recall any complaints of the tonal quality or non "real" feeling of the event" ...... and they use Fractal ....
That's Cool they all dig the compiled version of amps, good on them! ....But all those people's computers and such, do they look something like this then?
20211012_192036.jpg

Cause if not, Im good just listening to them rather than seeing them lmao

heres what they use at "The Gaaahden"

When the Stones (or others ) play there they are miced to the "system" or run digital to the board.....

2 different ends to a means (and Sorry @Clockworkmike but Nitas "ends" look WAAAAAAAAAY better than yours ;) )--

the new tech in auditoriums far out weights and BLOWS the (sorry) outdated "wall of marshall" 70's stack away -- watch the 1 hour PLUS video above -- the MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars piled into systems that can make the place RAWK or let you hear the sweetest violin concerto solo in an orchestra from the CHEAP seats .... at the hollywood bowl are (yes you are correct) no match for the pic of your Marshalls.......
not even close -- like looking at your bum and Nitas...........

No. You would not be hearing a muddy mix solely due to processing. Everything is only as good as the one programming and setting things up. I have noticed a tendency in the last several years to mix things to be rather bass heavy.

But, today, the modelling is so good you really probably could not tell the difference. Don't get me wrong. I love physical amps, speakers, and all that goes along with it. I really do think it's fun. But, processing (such as Fractal, Kemper, etc.) makes so much better sense for a touring act. The unit will always produce the exact same sound, regardless of venue and goofy power situations. And, it is actually less noisy.

Here ya go, Adrian. The Best Concert I ever attended. As you can see, STP used a wall of Vox's, David Edens, and acoustic drums not electronic ones.

Same went for Deftones, Live, Oleander, Tantric, etc. Pretty sure there was no Simulated Replication of their performances.

I love this one reply from one of the attendees who posted in the Deftones clip.

I was there about 30 feet back from the front! I was 15 years old and straight up thought I was going to intercourse die! Most intense concert experience of my life

Well, it was beyond bassy, it was flat out mud. No stick definition, Geddy's bass lines might have well been in quicksand, and Alex was probably the best of the 3, but not great. I will say it was an outdoor gig at Jiffy Lube Live, My next Rush show, much improved. indoors at the Baltimore Arena.

I normally prefer outdoor sound venues. Merriwether Post Paviliion and as you can see. Westmoreland Fairgrounds in Latrobe PA was phenomenal.

Both Rolling Rock Town Fair 1 and 2.0 in 2000 and 2001.

Im happy for you Chili -- I felt the same way at a CRUE concert in Cleveland .......in the 80s......

TO BE CLEAR Im not bashing either option -- and the POINT to this thread was really for those USING the digital tech -- some "tips and tricks" and "mods" if you will --- it wasnt to argue whats better at all.

again LOVE my little 7 watt FENDER tube amp
also LOVE my ampero modeling processor pedal
if asked to PLAY the hollywood bowl..................... after laughing so hard I piss myself ............ Id load a guitar and the pedal .....because frankly the tube amp would be useless........

My current rig is a HeadRush Gigboard and HeadRush FRFR-108 amp/driver. In total it weighs about 25 pounds.
It is a 2000W (Yes, that is right!) flat response full range amp with a 8” speaker driver. Does it move air like a 4x12? No, of course not. It can, however, get incredibly loud and pulls off a very convincing replication of whatever amp model is in the patch. To buy this setup brand new is about half the price of an unpowered Kemper.
I guess this would be considered the high end of the low priced “modellers”. It sounds pretty great and is more than adequate for any of my needs. One final thing. It is so easy to use that even an idiot like me figured it out in about 10 minutes WITHOUT resorting to the User Guide!

Im not bashing or saying you were either, Adrian. As someone who knows NOTHING about this SIM stuff, I did not even know they use SIM Speakers or Cabs or even Mic placement sims. Learn something new every day. I will have to go to Sound man school next so I can UNDERSTAND the details those who have experience or research on the SIM subject already know about the point of the thread.

Guess that is why it is called HELP with "PROPER" digital tone.

I definitely need HELP LOL

Robert Herndon will likely roll over in his grave at me posting this concert of the Chili Peppers I attended, but like the next year's Festival with STP etc, The prior year with RHCP was equally as sonically enjoyable as it was enjoyable in the tactile.

Somehow I can pull up this clip 21.5 years after this show and I still can feel the night we spent in a corn field with the top off our bronco and nearly freezing to death, then the day heated to hellish temps and humidity rivaling Lakeland Swamp conditions. And yet, if you listen to my favorite Filter song Hey Man Nice SHot. There are certainly electronic gizmo's but it has that RAW RAW Raw edge.

HOW will amp sims get this RAWNESS? Just watch from 6:00 on.

HAHA after I finish watching Hey Man for the 3rd time, I am gonna start researching these AXEFX etc thingamabobs.

TTFN.

Yeah, this topic is weird....I will say this though, I have a few things here that are ready to go at the flick of the switch. Some of them are extremely satisfying to indulge in....

…and yet, I choose to fire up the Kemper…and play some very Tool-ish stuff…between hockey periods ;)
