Tell you what, my musical brother...I thank God everyday that I'm still able to work. I'm 56 and lost all my retirement in a divorce. I have no assets. My only real skill is making music. I'll probably have to work from now until doomsday.
I enjoy my work at Fender, but the real purpose behind that job is that it's 10 miles from home. When I was commuting to Hollywood, that was 1,500 miles a week and I took an enormous pay cut when I left, but I'm not spending 4 hours driving home and I'm sure there's fuel savings in there too.
But between my teaching job at the music academy, my contract salary to the band (18 months left in my contract) and my Saturday night gigs, I'm still pulling on $1,000 every Saturday.
Our family couldn't survive without my work in music...
