IS it bashing?

I guess i think differently than most opinions on here. When i buy a guitar I want it pristine. Most people don't want a relic looking guitar when they buy new. And i don't want any excuses for any guitar company that charges top dollar, putting out a sub standard product. Especially when its a crap shoot you might get a good one or not.

I personally don't like reliced guitars, and never will. Maybe some like the look , just so it looks like to others they get played a lot. My guitars look almost new no chips, no dings, no deep scratches other than light ones from being played. If some where to look at mine they might think they don't get played, well I can tell you they are played probably more often than many here on this forum play theirs.

I play every day at least 2 hours per day seven days a week, and my Wife will vouch for that, so my guitars get a work out. Now i have read here certain models with Satin finish wear quick. in weeks from playing well isn't that nice, so I wonder does every buyer out there that buys a guitar from this Company knows that in a possibly short time this will happen to them. Well like we see here from Adrians experience no. Its not expected from any guitar buyer. After all the hours and years of playing my Godin guitars there is no wear on them from their factory finishes whatsoever, and not one factory blemish on any of them.

To each their own, but when people keep giving excuses for a guitar Company that continues to put out there, a product thats not the quality that they claim, by name, well , I know I will not buy anything from any Company that boasts quality, but doesn't produce a good product. Crap shoot is not good enough for me.

I'm with you on that, which is why all the ones I have now are full-gloss finish, but one look at Fender or Gibson Custom Shop offerings is all it takes to prove that the relic look is going strong and lots of people are willing to pony up big cash for it - literally the bulk of their guitars are relics of one kind or another.

I was looking on Wildwood the other day at Fender CSs and it seemed like 75% were relics. Most were sold. I don’t understand why they show the sold ones ?

I don't either, seems weird. They've always done that.

But yeah, seems the relic thing has become the bigger part of both Fender and Gibson's Custom Shop output.

I totally agree Norm.
That said, nitro finish is part of standard Fender and Gibson designs so one puts up with it. I also do not play softly and do gig out so some dings and wear are expecred. I would like those to come though via love from me not someone else.

I personally would not buy another guitar that is finished in anything but nitro. I don't care that it patinas the way it does; it feels much better in the hands, it looks better to me both new and as it ages, and I really do think that as it ages it helps to enhance the sound of the guitar. I can't prove it, but in my experience that's what I have come to believe.

I like nitro finish too. Not so much on back of neck where it can feel sticky.

The difference between nitro amd whatever else they use - poly?
My Yamaha is from 1987. Just a slight wear mark, granted, where arm rests.. the rest is fine other than some jean button worming on back and of course the odd ding. But no fading peeling etc and look at it's age.
Such a difference in finish.
But I like nitro too.
The only mark visible os where arm sits, almost looks like a reflection of LP beside it. The rest of the "marks" are simply reflections.

My 2021 Custom Tele, has a Catalyized Polyurethane finish.. ( Very Durable )

19 FOOGIN 62 thats '62 folks the damn VIETNAM WAR was STILL RAGING!!! (for a little scope here) gas was .31 a gallon and many of us HERE ....werent yet !!! but this damn BASS was ......

its had a headstock repair -- its had the frets ripped out and converted to fretless and the bridge area and "P" pickup area routed/hacked/ and ripped into ---

it is blued screwed glued and tattooed ------- beat, chunked, damaged repaired war warn and ugly ...............

and yet even though the finish is "checked" beyond belief ---- the EDGE of the body finish is still INTACT and NOT as rubbed off as the edge of a 2014 otherwise PRISTINE Gibson --- so --- this labors the question of WHY isnt GIBBO building em as good as they used to ?????? while banking on the PROMISE of YOU the buyer getting The "HERITAGE" of a quality GIBSON

for the record the SG EB "P" sounds A-FRIGGIN -MAZING it goes THUD like few other bass guitars can ...... of any year and price point......and cost me a WHOPPING(hold your hats kids) ....... 300.00 ......yep...... original tuners and all.......... 3 bills


COME ON GIBSON stop building price point and make a good guitar AFFORDABLE guitar and be PROUD while ... PLAY AUTHENTIC!

that falls in line with the "pay more get better" mantra many talk about doesnt it ??..... I paid more ... finish wise I didnt get "better" ...didnt even get "as good"

I think good is a matter of opinion. Some people hate a thick poly finish (or poly at all). They think the wood does not breath and age properly. Some people hate gloss. They love a thin satin finish, and as stated above, natural wear. You are not one of those people. Spray that baby!
