Our Cover of Jamey Johnson's 'In Color'

We are not done with this just yet, but here's what we banged out early this morning between other projects.

We raised the key of the song to C standard for our vocalist.

Volume levels are all over the place, but I think I got enough to work with.

I'll post the corrected/remixed version in a later post below...

Here's the cleaned up version.

Emphasis was placed on trying to make all the little things "hearable" in the mix, without any one thing being "over the top" so to speak.

Clean guitar is my Les Paul Replica (Planet Tone Afterburner and Special 59 Played in the Middle Position) and tuned a full step down to D.

Overdriven guitar is Yellow Strat (16.5k DiMarzio 44awg A9 Neanderthal) in Standard Tuning

There's some sections of the song that have a very pronounced static effect that appeared only when uploaded to Sound Cloud, so I'm sure it's because my limiter is set too low and the service converts the file to a lesser quality before posting, so I have some more work to do on this...

"We recommend you to upload in a lossless format like WAV, FLAC, AIFF, or ALAC. If you can, the bit depth and sample rate should be 16 bit and 48 kHz respectively.

When you upload a track on SoundCloud, we optimize it for streaming. As part of that process, we resample and transcode it to a high-performance codec. These codecs are highly optimized, but they can increase peak levels, which can cause clipping. We recommend that you leave between -0.5 and -1 dBFS of headroom to prevent artifacts like clipping during transcoding. Make sure to check the resulting stream in the rare case where more headroom is required..."

We start shooting footage for the video today at Rat's Nest Studios. We will be mixing black and white photos from our family's history within studio footage.

I told our videographer that I must have 100% realism, in that the instruments must actually plugged in and played to the recording - no pantomime.

Here's one of the images we will be using.

Back row left to right- My Grandma holding Aunt Sondra, My Grandpa, My Dad,

Front row left to right - Uncle Jerry, Uncle Donald, Aunt Kay

My Grandfather again. Our family has had over 300 years of continuous military service, including their time in England and Scotland before the family emigrated in 1748.

So these are just to give you an idea of how we plan to put the video together, along with black and white footage shot in the studio.

More to come...

I didn’t have a chance to listen to the early mixes, but this one is stellar. I love that clean chorus guitar.

Don,

That "clean chorus" is actually not a chorus at all!!!

That's the fake Les Paul I got from @eSGEe with a Planet Tone Afterburner (13k A5) and Special 59 (8.2k A2) played in the middle position and switched 180° out of phase and switched to "Megabucker" which boosts the neck pickup with the output signal from the bridge.

The 21 Tone Jimmy Page Harness really gives some incredible sounds!!!!

The Blackstar ID-Core 100watt was set to "clean warm" with reverb and a 231ms (approx based on bpm of 64) delay but no modulation FX.

Here's the remastered version with more headroom, clipping addressed, EQ'd for more clarity and depth...

Funny, when I was writing that, I’m thinking what a clean sound but a little voice in my brain is saying “I hear chorus”. So I went with that. :dood:
Either way, nice tone!
