Elk Grove Illinois next week

Hey, next Tuesday I'll be in Elk Grove, IL for the week. Anyone know of some small music shops, decent pubs, or other places in that area. I'll probably not venture into Chicago, and go to CME. I was there last time I had to go, and it was not a fun area to park, pay for parking, and look at guitars and amps that I couldn't afford. But, always looking for that mom and pop, or antique store that will have a treasure. Or, a good draft beer, or pierogi.

Ask guitarweasle. That may have been some of his stomping grounds when he lived in this part of Illinois. And yes. Parking downtown to go to CME sucks. Got a kid that lives in the city. They love it. Me not so much.

Dude, I wish I could recommend something. Rockford, Illinois (my hometown and home of Cheap Trick) is just over an hour from Elk Grove. Back in the day, Guzzardo Music was the biggest music store there. But, I have no idea if they are any good today.

I do get why people not from this part of Illinois would consider it a casserole vs a pizza. I rationalize it with….. if it were made with pasta - casserole. Since it’s made with pizza dough, I have no problem calling it a pizza what with all the ingredients being pizza fixings.
 
Portillos Hot dogs, Pepe's Tacos and as Chef mentioned "Tom Tom' Tamales, The hot dog joints should have them.
Yes Aurelio's if you can find one. They have real "thin crust" Chicago pizza.
The food is the only thing that I miss from Chicago.

Giordanos is quite good. We used to have one in Fox Lake. It’s actually a stuffed crust. Bottom crust. All the ingredients. Topped with another crust and a bit more sauce. One could make a real argument on it being a casserole. :pound-hand:

I can't stand Chicago style. To bad you're further West, there's a little Pizza joint in Elburn that has the best garbage Pizza I've ever had bar none! They make all their own sausage's on site......

John, I can also recommend a few traditional / authentic Taco joints favored by both the paisanos and locals (but especially me) if you'd like to try 'em. Although they're a bit more towards the west and south of Elk Grove (O'Hare airport) which is the one I'm more familiar with: the Oak Brook / Lombard / Downer's Grove area... Not that far really, only if you catch traffic. But in non-rush hours you can just go south on 83.

There's a place called Taco Grill and Salsa Bar on Ogden Ave. just west of Cass on the south side of the street; a good taco place called La Rosita on Roosevelt in Lombard, just across the street from a Guitar Center, also on the south side of the street. And if you happen to go to the downtown(ish) area, there's a great Taqueria / Restaurant called Atotonilco close to the stockyards area, on W 47th a couple of blocks west of Ashland Ave. You can't go wrong with any of these...

They finally sent me out here, but I’m in Hoffman Estates at our tech center. Went to Portilo’s for lunch today because it was close. I think they have pizza in mind for tomorrow. I hope to hit Weasy’s friend’s shop one evening this week, as it’s less than a half hour away.
