That's because Ken Fisher (R.I.P.) built his amps to each customer's preferences.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!! Was this clone built by TTR's T-Rex? @T-Rex

He built them all differently. He was tweaking and experimenting with different voicing and sounds.
It was evolving with time.
But still not much different than a Fender bassman or a marshall.

sure has a lot of buzz and hiss and ambient interference ....... maybe its just the mics or something....

I dont like buzz and hiss .....if I can hear the amp in the room buzzing w/ the volume on the guitar turned down ....... deal breaker for me

--- yes yes I know the hiss and hum from the WALL OF MARSHALLS at an AC/DC concert is likely DEAFENING if its in your living room..... but -- those are a different tool for a different task .... frankly as much noise as the wreck makes -- Id not give 50.00 for it (well I would to FLIP IT!!! BUWAHAHAHAHA) .....but only to flip it ....

Here's a good question: based on what's already been kinda touched upon, is it better to own something like a Dumble or a Trainwreck and spend north of $15k to around $50k or go seek out a vintage Bassman, JTM45/1987/1959 since essentially, were talking nearly the same designs? ( yes, theres differences in each of these amps but the common core design is not that far removed from one another)

Guess it depends on how deep your pcokets are and how badly you need to impress folks ?

IF YOUR GOOD ..... doesnt matter what gear ya use beyond a certain "pro" level now does it?

but this argument has gone on since the beginning of time

a HORSE does the same job as a donkey ..... but the horse looks cooler and maybe is faster...... costs more to buy and upkeep .....

the porsche does the same job as the ford (however your not going to haul rotted fruit to a compost pile for your garden..... with a porsche -- (but I digress).... again see above
etc etc etc
insert high $ item and cheap functional item :: here::

as long as YOU LIKE THE WAY YOU SOUND ......what does it matter what or how you create it?? Run 5.00 ebay pedal into a 100k amp -- or 50k pedal into 10.00 amp-- or straight to your computer..... or???? a car!

JOhn sounds good .......... with a FIRST ACT and BUG .......................

now I have BEattle gas

Ive read a lot on Ken Fisher. He seemed like a quiet, humble and down to earth guy. He just built the amps initially for other players who came to him ( like Jim Marshall before him) and for his own amusement, which is honorable. The drive for his amps is sorta like what happened to Klons, in that people liked them and drove up the market in the resell area, never going into the designers pocket.

Dumble on the other hand, seemed to drive up the prices and mystique himself and was never as approachable as a designer like Ken was on a buyer's level

I laugh every time I sit down across from the boutique amp and pedal guys. God bless them,.

In general, the most iconic music ever recorded was done so with marginal equipment. A good player will sound good on just about any piece of gear. Funny, when we sit down to record, nobody ever talks about the gear.

Every day, my goal is to be a better me...

I had the pleasure of playing with a couple of Express clones about twelve years ago. The builder did his homework, and tried his best to be correct with capacitor and resistor values, along with hunting down transformers. He also put a lot of work into tuning it. Although he is no Ken Fisher, he really put a ton of effort into his amps.

A couple of things I remember about the amps. Like Pete says in his video, there is a very sweet spot in the volume. It is very loud at that spot. When you play through one, it is very sensitive to everything. Think crap in, crap out. When cranked loud, it was exceptionally clean, but when you changed up either your left or right hand intensity, and played with the volume control, it got into some fun crunch and wild sustain and dynamics. The responsiveness to pick attack and finger attack are very prominent. As a result, there was no place to hide (like with a high gain amp). You had to play well, know the guitar, and the amp. My friend was driving the amp as I was playing. I had a ton of fun. I tried putting it in my suitcase as I was leaving.

Since I was in England at the time, we were using a couple of Guyton guitars (builder of Andy Powell/Wisbone Ash guitars), the amp ran on 220 volts, and we were using a Matamp 4x12 cab with pretty efficient Celestions.

Bottom line, would I own one given the chance? Absolutely. A good builder who knows his business and has a great ear could make a great wreck type amp. Would it be an actual Trainwreck? No, obviously. Would it be a great amp to own? For the right person, yes. Without a doubt. The first guitars I would use with it are my Flying V and Billy Bo copies, and my ES-335.

There are a couple of nice Wreck videos I'll post tonight when I get home. I'd post them now, but can't look at Yoootooob at work.

Nothing wrong with them....I think because I've worked in a recording studio everyday for 7 years, (and played 4-5 nights a week the past two years) my evaluation criteria is a lot different.
