Marshall Studio Series Opinions

Has anyone here got one of the Studio Series amps, either the SV20 or SC20?

I am seriously considering a trade for one. The online reviews and demos sound great but I am looking for some real world operating experience. Anybody?

I have a mini Jubilee and an SC20.
The SC20 does indeed sound like it's big brother albeit with a bit less brighrness I find.
I think it is a hair gainier than the originals too. Loud enough, plenty? Same steep taper on the master volume.
Since it depends greatly upon one's style it is hard to judge for others. I am a higher gain guy so either goose the front with a clean OD us use the Lynch Mod 2 pop in tube mod thing.
The usual versatility of an 800 single channel except the loop adds a solo boost option. Turnjng boost switch on back to ON drops the volume a bit. No reason I can think of that one would need to turn it off and on mid setso no issue whatsoever to me. None.
Loud enough in 5 watt mode too.

I may have a live type rehearsal recording somewhere.

Jubilee is a different critter sounds like you aren't jnterested

I found a clip from the studio. I prefer a brighter sound, I wanted a raw ballsy rock tone. I have the Lynch Mod in turned up some which adds an extra tube stage. Through a greenback 1x12. The angle,of camera mic with me standing in front makes it way less bright than right down in front.

Dunno if it helps, no footage of it stock.

Thank you Jethro. That sounds great. I have been following the SC20 thread on the Marshall forum, including your comments. I am mostly a Classic rock kinda guy so, while I love the Randy Rhoades tone, I am worried that the Mini Jubilee might be too much. I am hoping for something a little bit more versatile and was hoping the SV20 or SC20 might be it. I like the tone of your SC20.

My buddy John has both of them, and I got the opportunity to borrow them for a couple of hours one night, I played them on full power through an mg cab, with my SD1, and a slightly pushed amp..
I can bring a clip.
Thanks

Just back from a 2 week vacation so a little update for y'all. Due, in part, to the clips posted by Mitch and Jethro and to finally having had a chance to try one out myself, I dove in and picked up a Marshall JCM800 Lead Studio combo (SC20C).

Having been away, I haven't had a lot of time with it but so far it sounds great. I am looking forward to cranking it up a bit when I get the chance.

I had pared down my amp collection after having told myself that I really only needed the Fender Bassbreaker and my Roland acoustic amp. After all, I rarely play anything outside of my basement or the occasional jam night.

Then I got the '83 Marshall Lead 12, the Positive Grid SPARK and now the SC20C. Yes, it really is a sickness! Does anyone know if there is a chapter of Guitarists Anon near me?

The 10" Celestion V-Type sounds surprisingly good in the combo.
I have a 1x12 cab with a Vintage 30 and it sounds really great paired with the combo's internal speaker.
I am finally going to get a chance to try this beastie out at jam night on Tuesday.
Stay tuned for more thoughts.
Same Bat time! Same Bat channel!:p
