I have been trying to find a nice ES-335 or preferably an ES-345 for ages. Several people I spoke with a year ago thought that right now people would be dumping gear to pay for taxes and whatnot, not the opposite. I keep in contact with the guys at Retro Music in Keene, NH, and they can not get high end stuff in fast enough. It’s obviously good for them, but not me.
Anyway, Jeff just managed to find a 2016 Gibson ES-335 from the old Memphis factory still in the original cardboard shipping box. He and Doogle were the first people to open it. They sold it a day after opening the box, but the guy returned it a couple of days later to buy a Martin.
I saw when it was relisted on their website, and called them. They couldn’t hold it until the weekend without a credit card, so I drove two hours after work on Monday. Doogle stayed at the store to wait for me. He set me up with either a Vibroverb or Vibrolux(I forget which) to try it out. I really liked it.
It plays like a dream. The frets are crowned and beautifully dressed. The binding along the fingerboard is very smooth, and blends well with the large round neck. It also has a wide fingerboard. We’re unsure, but it probably has Burstbuckers of some sort. The finish is called “Faded Light Burst”, although a full gloss finish.
Also has stock Grovers and a locking tailpiece.
So far, the little bit that I’ve played out of my JTM45 has been a beautiful sonic experience. I’ll give some more updates over the next few days as I’ve had my hands full this week, and only had about 15-30 minutes each night to play with it.
