This was a Christmas gift back in 2008 with 2 AKG dual condenser microphones. To be honest I've never used it.
It records 8 channels 16 channels playback burns CD's USB out and a whole lot more I don't know so far.
The vocal correction is amazing good reverb and delay that's all I know so far.
Going to use a QSC K12.2 for monitor it has stereo inputs and my AKG headphones.

Well it didn't work out so well obsolete the recordings do sound great but wont burn CD's and the 2006 software a thing of the past.
Next I'm looking at the Tascam Model 12 should be enough tracks if not I can chain my Allen and Heath QU-16 digital board
I only have five condenser microphones most of the multi track recorders of today only have two phantom powered inputs
that's why I'm looking at the Tascam 12 has eight phantom powered why not the model 16 or 24 no midi in or out the model 12 does.
End of the day I don't need more than six tracks so far to complete a song.

Don I have this board now it will record with Mac the last I pads hardware crashed I'm done with Apple.

I remember that now! Are your troubles with the board? Or the external iPad thing? That board will multitrack to an external drive, won’t it? You could then plug that drive into a PC and mix in whatever software you like. I’m stuck working today, so not a lot of time to research, but the quick sweetwater skim of the specs seems to indicate that is the case.

Honestly, the Mac Mini is the bargain of the bunch. I picked up a MacBook Pro last spring/summer, and connectivity is more difficult to manage than I thought it would be. I seem to have found a good solution, but things get all touchy when/if things power down and get unplugged. If you’re looking to record with the Air, it will handle it, but you will want to use an external drive as a destination for audio or video capture. There are only 2 USB C ports...they fill up quick. I just picked up one of these little towers...

The bonus....both of my old video monitors work with it! Happy accident!

It can be seen in the lower left, right below channels one and two on the Soundcraft.
It gives me 6 USB jacks and another USB C port....along with the external video ability. I can run the control surface on the right, take audio feeds from(and send to) the Soundcraft, run a couple of external drives etc.
edit: it also sends power through to keep the laptop charged.

That Macbook seems to have a rather small hard drive. You may have to have a second for backup. Also, no DVD or CD read/write. Is that something you can get inexpensively as an outboard rig?

I have this old Boss BR-900CD units. I'd like to mess around with it again after I'm done with all this other stuff around the house. Good thing it has a CD writer, because it will only work with Windoze XP.

Yeah, plus the system is running from the internal drive...asking it to write audio files to the system drive is gonna choke the machine fairly quickly....probably 5-6 simultaneous tracks, and the system will start to show itself working hard.
If you use an external drive with decent write speed spec, and tell the system to write audio files there, things will run smoother and cooler.

Another thing to watch out for is compatibility with the new models...Apple just started switching to their own processor chipsets(instead of intel). I have the last MacBook Pro model with an intel processor. This will affect the compatibility with some peripheral devices...especially those geared toward video features. Always make sure that your year/model Mac is on the list of compatible models. Usually not a big issue, once the new hardware becomes established.

I was on the Allen and Heath forum and this is the hard drive they suggest using on the Allen and Heath QU16

So if I get the Mac mini should work
I have something similar in spec(540MB/s write speed). Works well so far. I’ve done 12 tracks simultaneously on a pretty standard USB notebook drive though. The whole point is to only give it one task...handle audio file reading and writing. Those SSDs are supposed to be pretty robust/rugged though...

Honestly, for a stable setup, that doesn’t need to travel much... the Mac Mini would have been a better choice for me. I don’t really regret the laptop...it’s my first one....in good weather, it’s nice for goofing off around the bbq/fire pit and around the yard.

This should keep me entertained for awhile. I can record direct from the Allen and Heath QU16 to the SSD 1 TB drive
or use the UR24C for just two channels and the DAW software will work with my Zoom h4n.

Excellent!
I have an interface that will pull 16 tracks from a mixers insert/direct outputs directly to a hard drive(great for live gigs), much like your board will do. I’m happy to hear that you’ve found a working solution to your needs!
