For sure man. When I first moved to California I lived in South Pasadena and Pasadena, and the climate there seemed to preserve cars and a lot of other things indefinitely. In fact, my wife actually drove a Super Beetle when we first got married (early '70's, I think '73, but I don't remember the exact year) and the bodywork was in remarkably good shape. We didn't have that car by the time we moved to the beach about 15 years ago, but you soon learn that everything ages quickly here - the car I had at the time, a 2003 Audi A4, started getting oxidation on the aluminum parts within the first couple months, and by the time I sold the car in 2010 it was showing surprising amounts of it, but no body rust.
 
JT, I loved that first guy, Not so sure but that 2nd guy has a face only a mother could love.

Gball, I hear ya. MY first ever trip to California was in 1986 as my school friend Cheryl and I drove her Mercury Lynx out there to Fullerton.
I was soon on a $39 Southwest flight to San Jose to head over to Fremont about 2 days after arriving. It was on walks around Fremont/ Hayward that got me seeing BRAND NEW looking 60's Camaro's I could only dream of back east.

Chilli, here’s a grainy pic of my second 68 Camaro. I bought this one in 1979 here in Orange County 2+ years after I moved to CA. While finding this photo I also discovered that it has the car I drove across country (MD to CA) in. That blue 1966 Impala station wagon behind the Camaro was my parents. They gave it to me to drive across country with 2 college buddies who each had their own car back in 1976. That station wagon was packed full inside and the luggage rack on top was full. That Snap On tool box posted in another thread along with the mirror ball in the studio we’re part of that cargo :dance:

PS - not a spot of rust on the Camaro either. The wagon got sold to a scrap yard not long after this pic for $25. Rust everywhere.

In 1979, I was not old enough to drive yet, but scoured the Sunpaper classifieds all the time. A 67-70 Camaro or Bird could be had for anywhere from $500-$2k back then here. Heck, Dummy me @ 15-16 could have bucked up for a 67 Bird for $500 from a neighbor lady who never drove it. The trunk had rusted clean out in the bottom, but it did run. I drove it. Sadly I used my lack of funds, lack of a garage, saving for college, and living in parents' apartment to rationalize why I should pass on buying it. Today if I had bought it and fixed it up with skills I gained and friends I know with welding, body and fender and paint knowledge, that car might be worth $25-$50K

I often lament letting her keep it, as it went to some other guy shortly afterwards and I basically missed my shot.
