I finished modifying a 2015 Gibson Les Paul Special Double Cut

Love the bridge! Nice looking axe!
I keep thinking I want one of those bridges for one of my guitars, but I keep putting it off.

I really liked the sound from the P-90s (this was my first P-90 equipped guitar), but the bridge position didn't have a strong enough coil for what I play most. I really wanted to put this guy in the rotation so I decided to swap out the bridge pickup with a Dimarzio P-90 size humbucker. The new pickup was not fitting very well and I needed to route the cavity further. After spending a wallet-busting amount on tools I decided to just take it all the way. I fixed the bridge cavity and routed a new slot in the middle for the original bridge P-90. Although I had planned to use the original electronics, the little circuit board became a problem after I completely shielded everything internally so I scrapped all that (except the toggle & jack) and did some fancy wiring and a couple mini switches. Hated the wraparound bridge so I installed an adjustable Baby Grand. I replaced the machine heads and added a Hipshot Detuner (I have these on several of the guitars I play most often). After a quick setup, she is ready to rock.

They are kinda expensive, at least for me, but the adjustable saddles allow proper intonation and tuning. Worth it in the end. I would not recommend anybody adding a Detuner to a guitar that doesn't have rock solid intonation/tuning.
What is that bridge on your V?

A Stetsbar....same as the model on the SG in my avatar. No mod’s necessary to fit, but locking tuners are my preference with them. I go back and forth from standard to drop tuning often, and have the Stetsbars set up to drop pitch only. I may look in to the Hipshot Detuners at some point. Thanks for the reminder.

Cool! I haven't had any experience with the Stetsbar. Very interesting. The Hipshots are used to flick into Drop D and back to E. You can even do it mid-song. Kind of a one trick pony but it's a good trick for those who use Drop D some of the time. Hipshot makes that Baby Grand bridge also. I'm sure you knew that already. Rock on! Cheers.

very cool, i have the Dmarzio mini hum in Lp w/90 great combo. Enjoy that tone machine
Thank you. I really like the tonal options with the P-90s. I wired them in series, like a humbucker, and can split and choose individual coils with the mini switch. Same thing with the Dimarzio. The other mini switch allows me to run it as a humbucker or split and choose either of the individual coils. Then the standard toggle lets me combine my choice of P-90 coils & humbucker coils in parallel or apart. Trying to explain it sounds more complicated then it actually is. Running the P-90s this way doubles their DCR so their output is stronger. But the blended sounds are really, really sweet as well.

So, I am guessing that the Mini Humbucker fits right into a P-90 slot. Hmmm. I bought a routing template for this project. I may try a Mini Humbucker in another guitar. You're givin' me ideas.

Your LP Double-Cut looks killer and so unique after your 'Hackmasting'...

I like Hipshot products, and the Hipshot Baby Grand bridge looks very nice on your guitar.

Nice work there, Mr cdawg22!

That would be one very fun guitar to play !!

My wording was incorrect, meant the p90 size Dmarzio humbucker is in LP, but the mini's can fit..like in my stock SG w/mini's. The mini's are great pickups..Nighthawk has it in the neck, that is what led me to the SG search for mini's, incredible mid position sound for huge rhythm chord strumming. Seems to be in the middle of a p90 & humbucker. fun stuff

Your SG looks really sweet. Do you wrap your strings around the tailpieces of all your guitars? What are the benefits if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you. You're very kind. They do make great stuff, huh. I bought my first Extender Key/Detuner from them through the mail in 1997. I have the GT1 and GT2 on 7 of my guitars now.
