The Muse I Adorn

Astral Traveler you just made my day. Ya see i live about 120 miles south of the land of Jimi and im a way big Jimi fan. Great job

Thanks! I still have a lot of work to do before I'll nail that song. I love playing it on the Peavey though, the pickups in there are great, perhaps the best sounding pickups I have in a guitar. I often hear people describing active pickups as sterile but they should try a set of active Peavey pups, sterile couldn't be farther from the truth.

That guitar has a lot of character! Great grains and super dark fretboard, which I am guessing is ebony
Believe it or not, the spec from Gibson on the fretboard is “American Rosewood”. It is very uniform. The grain is not as tight as Ebony, but it is fairly smooth feeling when I’m playing. When freshly cleaned, and oiled, it is VERY dark. When it lightens up a bit(after about 6 to 9 months) I know it’s time for a bath.
The original factory nut chipped out, under the D string, from Stetsbar use(I’m guessing, as it happened after a few gigs of heavy Stetsbar action). It was probably repairable, but I wouldn’t trust it, so I replaced it with a Tusq nut. I chickened out on taking the base of the nut down when installing, and have felt that I could have tuned the slots a bit lower since. Today, I got out the feeler gauges, and went to town...matching the gaps over the first fret of my SG Standard P90 which has action that I adore. Success! I am ecstatic with the results so far! It plays like it did when I bought it...phenomenally! I’ve been putting those Hosco(I think) nut files to good use...2 nuts in 2 weeks...both guitars are noticeably better for it.
