So this is a Korean made Ovation shallow bowl acoustic electric whuch I bought at an auction. It doesn't seam to have much in the way of electronics. There is just a volume and tone pot. I'm happy with the way it sounds acoustically. I havent plugged it in yet. It came with a hard case which isn't an Ovation branded case. The finish is cracked in 2 places with the grain near rhe bridge but the wood appears to be intact. The winning bid was $125. All in with tax and fees was $149 and change.

Congrats.
I think you're going to like it. But hey.... feel good about having a tone pot. My Ovation's so old it only has a volume. Not really a problem since when I play at church I'm plugged straight into the board and I just let them do the EQ.

Thanks. I'm liking it a lot, although the string spacing seems quite a bit wider than on my electric so I keep missing with my pick. It's nothing that some practice won't fix, though. I might also put some lighter gauge (.010-.047) strings on it

I love Ovations, but they don't love me. When I was looking for an acoustic guitar I tried a couple of Ovations and they were some of the best sounding guitars I tried, especially plugged in. My only problem was that the round back of the guitar and the round belly on my front were competing for territory.

I hear that! I will just wear a strap even when sitting down. So far I am really liking both the sound and the feel of the guitar.

That is in very nice shape. Ovations are tanks. I have also heard of players putting a grip tape/pad on the treble side to help keep it on the knee.

Copy that on round belly meets round guitar back. I guess after playing the thing for 40+ years I just don't really notice that much.

Congratulations!

I have a Celebrity, too...well...I gave it to my son...anyway... Mine is a little different from yours. I have little volume and EQ sliders on mine, instead of knobs. I'll post up a pic later, so you can see it.

As promised, here is pic of the controls on mine:

Also, I just noticed you have the kind with the round sound hole. Mine has the little holes in the upper bout. I'm betting yours is an earlier model, which is cool.

When you get a chance, you should plug yours into a good acoustic amp, or a sound system with nice FRFR speaker. They actually sound pretty decent plugged in.

I really wish my belly wasn't so round :( I'd love to own an Ovation. I fell in love with them in the 70's when I first played one and weighed 160 pounds.

I love the look of those little sound holes, but this one is fine. I don't have a "great" ear but it sounds really good to me even unplugged. I put extra light phosphor bronze strings on it today and it is playing great.

Yeah, I think the lighter phosphor strings do great on an Ovation. Coated strings, like Elixers, are great for Taylors, but aren't so good for Ovations, in my opinion. They do better with a brighter string.

This is making me miss mine...

I'm gonna have to "borrow" it back from my son!

I always liked the look of Ovations.

Good choice on the Ovation! I have two and love how either of them sound... I use them plugged in more then straight and love the effects that can be added to enhance the sound.

The first I got was the Balladeer... and feel in love with it's tone.

Then I had an opportunity to get the Celebrity at a good price and it became a great 6 string back up for my acoustic shows......

I hear everyone talking about the round back on them, but it is just a matter of getting use to them. A strap does help if it's too much of a problem. My partner in the acoustic shows just picked up a Celebrity to add to his Alverez and he is saying the same thing about the back. We have an acoustic show coming up next weekend and he has vowed he will have it mastered..... :dood:

I will say I have more problems with my Ovation moving around when I stand and play. So when I play at church I've been sitting on a bar stool. I do have the strap on since there are songs that does call one to be a bit more animated than you can be sitting.

A bar stool in church............. I may need to check out what church you go to. Sounds really liberal. I've heard them called "devotion stools" and "meditation stools"......... but never bar stools in a church. P:lol:

I had a nice ovation one time. Great sounding guitar, but there really was no comfortable way to play it, for me anyways.
