Does anyone here have any experience with tapewound bass strings? Thinking about putting a set on my Michael Kelly acoustic. The halfwounds that are currently on it aren't scratching my itch for tone . They aren't bad, they just don't play nice with the inlay on the fingerboard.(rattle and buzz) And, yes, the truss rod is properly adjusted.

The tapewound is more upright / woody sounding so it works well on an acoustic bass.
The roundwound is much brighter and is working on a Rickenbacker.
Of course yeah we like Rotosound but who can afford it? it just costs more.

Strangely enough, I recently replaced the 10 year old roundwounds on my only fretted bass with D'addario half rounds and I really like them. They give a more focused sound while retaining the clarity of roundwounds. I'm really looking forward to trying the tapewounds. That's the only type of string I haven't tried. Really hope they are the solution to my problem.

I didnt like the halfwounds--- felt STICKY to me
Mine never felt sticky, just not quite as smooth as true flatwounds. I have them on the S101,and love them. They didn't do as well on the acoustic with the inlay. On the other hand, the tapewounds you sent arrived today. I just got done stretching them in and played for about a half hour. You called it right, Adrian- they are exactly what the doctor ordered! Even response, deep tone, and all the mwah anyone could ask for! Thanks again! I owe you one!

I always buy my strings from my local shop. When I am out of town I purchase from a reputable Guitar store. I f I was to buy strings online which I might have to seeing the guitar stores are closed right now due to virus. In that case I will buy online from a guitar store that has online shopping. As they get the real deal from reputable distributors.
