My Corona

Well, the county we live in: San Luis Obispo county, is mandating "shelter at home" effective at 5:00 PM today for 30 days. The ordinance will be reviewed every 14 days.

SLO county: 7 diagnosed positive for the virus. County population around 280,000.

Well...

We’re up to 107 cases in Maryland and the first death was announced yesterday.

Of course, that’s a small number compared to the population of the state, but the number of cases here has been going up 80% to 90% every two days.

I‘ve been following recommendations regarding hygiene, staying at home as much as possible, avoiding crowds, and all that.

I’m not fearful; just cautious.

They have been telling people to use self isolation, only go out if you need food or medicine. All restaurants closed here in Ontario except for drive thru. 3 days ago closed all schools until 14th of April. Dentist offices closed for 3 weeks only to be opened for emergency. Some other businesses closed until further notice. No travelling out of country. The Government says we are just coming into a heavy period were things will start spreading quickly, no cases here in the city where I live yet, its all around us. They are keeping a close look to see what's happening , stricter measures may be possible they say, as they monitor the situation. When I went out for groceries yesterday, people are getting the message from what I see store did not have near as many as usual. Girl at checkout said they get trickles of people here and there.

So, is too farfetched?
I'm assuming this highly contagious strain of flu originated in China. A very unusual characteristic of the coronavirus is that it concentrates its damage on the elderly. Children and other young people are not as affected like they would be from other types of flu viruses, even though they are quite capable of being carriers of this virus.

Here's the farfetched part: Could this have been a bio warfare created to thin China's elderly population? I mean, if some of their leaders have desperately come out and publicly accused the USA's military of contaminating them, then maybe they are desperate enough to commit genocide on their own people. Sorry for the dark thoughts.

It's not flu. It's airborne viral pneumonia.

Considering that the US has gone from 1 to 6k+ cases in two weeks it doesn't look great. And the estimates are that at least another 50% are infected and either dont know it yet or havent reported it. Also, in the US, the age range is far different than other countries, with 45% of positive cases being 55 or younger.

Korea is testing 20k+ people per day, the US has tested 40k total.

You can be assured I won’t be stupid!

I‘ve been gradually preparing myself for a quarantine...whether due to exposure to others or contracting the virus myself.

Again, I don’t live in fear. I don’t believe in that. Fear paralyzes. I prefer to live with awareness. Awareness empowers.

Sometimes, the effect on behavior is the same, but the reasons are vastly different.

I did 5 shops/deliveries today. Carts are being wiped down as you get them. 4 of the 5 were leave order on the porch and text. Everyone was home.

Here, in this area, InstaCart is better than Shipt. The clientele and pay are better.

About 40 miles south, Shipt is better.

Weird, huh?

My wife actually took a full day off today. She’s been going all hours of the day for weeks. She’s been doing “leave at the door” orders for awhile.

She recently had radiation treatments for Dupuytren’s disease and she thinks she’s getting carpal tunnel from sitting at the computer late at night grading her students’ work. She literally cries in the middle of the night from pain.

She kills herself, though. She’s got some elderly regulars that she feels really obligated to shop for.
