HNSGD... Gift from my son

Nice guitar I love how it looks, how does she play and sing ??
Well, since you asked...

It's a very impressive playing machine in many different ways for me. This thing is so heavy and solid... notes and chords sustain for days! The Mighty Mite neck is awesome! Very effortless and comfortable to move around on. It has a thin clear satin poly on it, but it still feels like I'm touching raw and highly polished wood. Nice, even, and smooth fret job. The "new to me" Indian Laurel fretboard feels like a smother rosewood. The neck edges have been rolled too... fun, fun, fun...

But I did have to intonate and radius the top loading bridge. The action was a little bizzare too. All easily fixed though. It looked like whoever did the final setup... uhm… didn't ha ha

Besides the unusual material of the guitar body, a big mind blower for me is the EMG active pickups. I have never experienced actived style pickups. There is something very different going on here... :hmmm: I feel like I'm cheating...:hide:

First time with EMG or actives?

I'll bet that is fun lol
They are a bit different than your regular type pups, aren't they?

I would also like to mention, that I'm really not digging the bridge hardware. The design is heavily flawed and knowing that, is really bugging me. I'll admit that it does the job, but in respect to the uniqueness of this guitar, it deserves something nicer.

The chrome plating on the saddles has a cheap look to it and the strings are coming into contact with the threaded screws:

This bugs me too... a set of tapered mounting rings?

I'm going to replace those rings with some thin untampered metal black rings.

For replacing the bridge I'm looking at a Schaller Non-Tremolo Roller Bridge (3D-6). Need to verify the footprint and see how it matches up:

PErhaps Sysco you could ask him to join our little Commune of Crazy? -- Our Den of Disillusion-- our Clubhouse of Chaos????
--- you know I mean the TONE ROOMS right?
I've actually seen him on YouTube. I got into watching some oddball stuff like blacksmithing and woodturning...one thing led to another....I remember watching the video of one of those tables he's got on his site being made. Pretty fascinating stuff. Almost made me wanna give it a try.

Beautiful guitar, Sysco; an amazing present to receive, congratulations.

I kinda expected it to play and sound like a dog (especially after you mentioned about the wiring), and also thought the bridge looked just wrong. But, great news that it's not only beautiful but plays and sounds good too after some adjustments. I hope you can find a bridge, such as that Schaller, with the same footprint because then everything will be golden!

How about the tuners and nut? What are your thoughts on them?

Ha ha... That's how my son found Daniel Nelson, and is interested in the process too. Especially in the tables with the epoxy resin going through it.

Tuners feel smooth and precise. They seem to be Stewmac's Gotoh Schaller-style knob 6-In-Line tuners.

The nut was mostly OK. None of the strings were binding at the slots. Tuning is very easy. The height and radius of the nut slots was spot on. But I personally felt that the slots needed to be widen a bit. So, I quickly took care of that and also gave the nut a semi decent polishing!

EDIT: Nut is made of "PPS plastic"
