About guitar strings lately, thought I would do some investigative work. The source is Amazon. Amazon sells a pile of guitar strings, so here is there results. I use Nickel Wound D'addario EXL 110-10P Regular Light. They have been awesome strings, for me, I have never in 5 years had one break 10-46s. I like the tones and longevity of the strings. I have tried Ernie ball Slinkys, I didn't like the feel or the tones and found the longevity was shorter compared to D'addarios. I am impressed with the results from Amazons findings, but not surprised. I know at my local shop D'Addario strings are their number one seller.

#1 Best overall electric guitar strings D'Addario EXL 110-10P Nickel Wound Regular Light
#2 D'Addario EXL115-10-P Nickel Wound Medium/ Blues-Jazz Rock Best overall Electric guitar strings Runner Up.
#3 Ernie Ball Best budget Electric guitar strings .

I do know there is a fair amount of subjectivity with strings.
I personally can't use D'Addarios - they always sound zingy to me and seem to die an early death.
I don't like the feel of Ernie Ball's or Dean Markleys even if they sound fine, just something about the tension of them.
DR strings feel really nice but also seem to die quick and the material seems somehow softer than many others.
The old Gibson strings, when they made them in-house, were magnificent. The new ones suck.
SIT's are too squishy feeling.
Rotosounds were always too bright for me.
I tried Boomers and stuck with them because they were the perfect combination (for me) of feel, tone and longevity.

The D'addario's seem to break on me when i tried them, so i went back to Ernie...

I might give these a try, I see what the guy is saying in the video. I will be definitely stay with the D'Addario brand though, they have been good to me.

SUNDAY (past) I did a string change and polish and fret oil (Spa day) for the LEster Brothers-- Epi Silver Burst Custom and Les Paul Recording
JUST put a set of these D'addario XL (Halfrounds) -- on my Silverburst les paul--it is what I HAD put on there 2.5 or 3 years ago--(Its o.k. @gball ...breath--calm ...calm thoughts.... I know every 30 days new strings I know) ;)

SO -- well the last set lasted 3 years of Sunday morning Jazz noodlings-- but-- the NEW set----well right outta the pack-- "G" string has black corrosive funk on it :(
-- dont get the "vibe" this set will last as long as the prior ones--

Then I tried some ROTOSOUNDS on the LEs Paul Recording (it had LEs Paul Signature GIBSON strings (I know) on it ----
all went well-- however MOnday evening when I went to fondle my baby--- the E string had come UNWOUND!!!!!!! (ggrrr) so-- its a good thing (and possibly WHY) ROTOSOUND gives you 2 (yes TWO) high "E" strings in every pack----

Boomers have been good-- Ernie Ballsacks are fine-- the Musicians Friend EL CHEAPO "Musicians GEar" ones work GREAT for most applications especially "flippers"
I mean its hard to argue with 2.29 PER PACK

My personal preferences:

IMO, the Ernie Balls M-Steels are best bang for the buck. The Boomers come in a very close second. The Paradigms are the best but pricey. It's been a while since I bought the NYXLs... I think they used to be $10!

I've had a few start to unwrap on me, and from the looks of it I'm not alone. But more than that it's the zingy sound that turns me off. That and the stupid colored ball-ends.

Well you might not be alone gball , but the numbers in sales at Amazon show the guys that use D"Addario are definitely not alone. Like I said in my post I have used them for 5 years and never had one string break, practicing 2 hrs a day plus gigs, changing them on average every 2 months. I would say that's very good. and I happen to like the coloured ends saves time when stringing. :) and I do like the tones as well.
