Any one living or has live in the Phoenix, AZ and/or surrounding area?

The wife could possibly transfer to a Phoenix, AZ office if we decided too. We've been wanting to move West. But, we've only been to Phoenix, AZ once many years ago (short of driving straight thru at night that is). The whole Cost of Living compare sites and Crime Statistics sights are all over the place. One will say more expensive and/or more violent and another will say the opposite. We have options for the Houston, TX area - we know we like Texas, but... We also would like to move farther west.

Figured I'd see if anyone here a what, to, for on Phoenix good, bad, or ugly...

My ex-wife lives in Phoenix, so I try to avoid it. ;)

Just kidding, she really does live there but I have to go for work a few times a year and two of our employees live there. These are employees that, due to the nature of their work, could choose to live anywhere they want and they choose Phoenix and love it.

Not having lived there I can only say that it is one of my favorite places to visit for work. The weather can get hot but I'll take a dry 115 in the desert over 90 and super-humid any time. My wife and I are planning to retire in Palm Springs for that reason.

I'm guessing others can weigh in but for me, I'd give it a shot if it makes sense financially and you are interested enough to try a really different lifestyle.

I, should say we (wife and I), really like the edge of the desert and desert area's. Too me there is a whole lot of animal/plant life and color than you'd think - different, but it's there. But, to be honest, there really isn't much of any type terrain I dislike - it's my body that doesn't like the cold and humidity anymore....

I'm in Az also, since 1976.
We moved here for parents health reasons from Wisconsin.
The city of Waukesha, home of Les Paul.

As an 11 year old I hated it. I went from the garden of Eden to what felt like hell.
Beautiful country with a forest, hills, 4 seasons to a flat, barren desert, 2 seasons, fall and spring seem like just a few days, void of trees.
I played in the washes, closest thing to a forest.

My heart is of the 11 year old, yet now at 54, my body is convincing me other wise. LOL
I understand better why my parents moved here.

Your body will love it then!
:dood:

It sounds like you might enjoy Cave Creek area.
Homes there are required to maintain the natural desert landscaping.

Phoenix, AZ for at least 1/2 the year makes FL look like Alaska. No one was walking the streets of Phoenix, forget that dry heat BS, town was desolate outside till nightfall! Dogs were let out of cars to do their thing and they were confused, nothing growing, nuttin green there just wasn't anyplace they could go! That was my experience in late August

This if Funny stuff, but has some truth to it..."Phoenix, AZ for at least 1/2 the year makes FL look like Alaska."
August is maybe not the time to visit..;)
Probably the best time to come is now, so when summer hits ya, you can remember why you moved here.

Its pretty bad when your over night low in summer, is everyone else's highs. LOL

Its just changed so much since 76, and the last 30 years hasn't been kind to any of the lower 48 I think.
We often discuss moving but just don't know where it would be better. Not so much the weather, but over all.

I personally know, I'm worn out from the heat.

Cool deal on all the thoughts - that's why I came here. Trying to use the compare place A to place B type sites are all over the place - doing the whole vice versa thing. One site will say more expensive, more violent, etc and another will say the opposite. Not much use - which is what led me to start this thread - hear it from people who live or lived there type thing...

On another note - the wife's job is located on the North side of Phoenix, so living/residence wise we'd be more interested in the north side or a little ways out from the north side of Phoenix. Anyone have any thoughts on the good/bad/ugly in that?

I know when we live in Texas for a while, and was thinking about moving to Austin, a local musician in Austin stressed staying West of some road/highway (can't remember which one off hand).

Phoenix = 100° at midnight!

Sounds like good insulation and then some is must. I'd imagine most of the homes are built for the heat or ?
Florida has some pretty stiff building codes on Mobile/manufactured homes - which, in my searches I haven't seen either brought up much in Phoenix/Arizona.
