Any Marshalls and which ones ya got?

OK Now that we are talking unique named Amps and we have some "builder" types in here. I can't say I have heard of Black Flags, but I have heard of and heard live performers who used some big name brands and some who use more 1 off type amps.

Anyway, Some of the one off types I am curious about are Matchless, Tone King, and of course 67 plexi's specialty on Trainwreck types. If anyone has experience with Budda and or East Amplification. I am curious on how they shine, especially since Jeff Bober is local to me.
Then there are a few Bass amp types I know of thru ones a friend has. Walter Woods, David Eden and Reeves. I have enjoyed Ampegs, GK, Hartke. Mesa, SWR, and my current bass amp Ashdown. I often considered hunting down a nice Mesa 400 or 400+.

Of course, I am also a big fan of other OLD brands for guitar and bass such as Hiwatt, Sunn, Music Man, Gibson.

Also, as a big fan but never understanding the differences in gear used by my favorite guys like early Entwhistle and Townshend, How did Entw, use Marshall heads and get the power he needed for live bass shows, before he got into amps like Sunn, Hiwatt etc?

Chilli, the "Black Flag" amps are the Marshalls that were produced in the late sixties with the black box logo, with the gold colored JTM letters on the control panel. There were several different logo styles in the sixties for Marshall amps. They are usually used to describe a certain year JTM 45, 50, or 100 model. These all pre-dated the Plexi amps.

A Marshall "black flag" or "reverse logo" amp is a '67 JTM, so called because of the way in which the JTM logo is applied to the plexi faceplate, seen closeup hereWP_20190306_12_47_05_Smart.jpgwhere we can see the lettering reverse imaged in gold on the black "flag" background. Only the '67 amps were done this way, so the reference defines an amp of that era.
This (reproduction) faceplate is for the JTM50 build that I currently have under way. Cheers

Used to work at a studio back in 2000-1 era and the best amp in the guitar booth was Matchless DC30. Monster tone and balls. Really felt it all over from my fingers to my toes. Had a sweeeeet singing sustain and insane harmonics. Also may have been the best low to mid crunch amp I've ever played personally.
Yarg, I know of one fella I have seen live who plays these Matchless amps. Robert Cray. Needless to say, he has a distinctive tone.
