Just picked this up as I’ve finally got the Tele buzz. It looked like an inexpensive way to get a Tele style guitar without spending too much cash.

Has a belly and arm carve and and a reasonably thin finish. Was thinking of stripping it off and painting just to get some practice in that but now I’ve got it home I’m thinking of leaving it as it is. The bound neck is an interesting touch.

Changes will most likely be the selector switch as it is longer than a Tele and feels pretty flimsy and possibly the string guides/trees.

Not sure about the string trees. They’re just bent types, has anyone had issues with tuning because of the strings catching on these?

I took the pics before I cleaned and polished it and re-strung it.

Now it looks a bit cleaner and is a whole lot easier to play now the rusty strings are gone!

Plays just fine. I’m not going to claim it is better than this or that, it just does the job of sounding in the Tele ball park. Switching from the neck to the bridge it goes from calm to raucous so I’m guessing. There is a bit of an output difference between the two pickups.

Anyway, to the pics.

Nice find!
Looks new, I like that natural a lot is that body ash?

That is a lot nicer than the most basic SX Furrian model I got (basswood, way too thick poly) offered in the USA through Rondo Music.
Priced accordingly though, cant complain.

Never saw that 3 screw neck before, but I'm no expert on them.
Never had any tuning trouble with those string trees once I replaced the horrible stock nut.
Some advise to check the edges for burrs or round/ smooth them lightly with a file.

Mine has bad neck dive which I find problematic so it has been sitting lately.
Early on (I started playing very end of 2014) I almost always played seated and never noticed it.
I did put locking tuners on it which now I would deem unnecessary (it was my first rodeo).
Been meaning to swap in some lighter, or even the original tuners and go to 9-42.

Twang ON!

I’ve seen pics on some websites that have various versions of similar looking SX Teles and they are supposed to be Ash so I’m guessing mine probably is. Thanks for the info on the string trees. The nut does look pretty ordinary so I’ll monitor that and see if it needs any work or changing.

Looks greeeeaaaaat (y)

the pearloid pick guard was de-laminating so I took the opportunity to order a black, single ply pick guard from Musiclily to replace it. The mounting holes were slightly different alignment so I filled them with wood skewers and re-drilled new holes. I'm digging the full black guard, though there is a bit of a clash with the white bound neck. I don't really care about that though...all-in-all I'm pretty happy with the new look!
