Cool article about a truly classic instrument. That word "iconic" is overused these days but I'd say that guitar qualifies.

I wish he'd measured the DCR on those pickups.

Mike Bloomfield used to carry his '59 burst around on the NY buses & subways without a case.
Of course at the time the guitar was only a ten years old or so.

Judging from the article, it sounds like this guitar has great sounding pickups, but is otherwise in questionable shape.

The neck has a backbow, the frets are worn, the replacement nut doesn’t seat properly, there is some fret buzz in spots, the broken neck was repaired with a scarf joint (which, admittedly, is functionally a good idea), the paint used in the repair doesn’t match, it has a poorly finished headstock overlay repair...not to mention multiple cosmetic issues.

Sounds like a guitar none of us would buy were it not a ‘59 or associated with Kossoff.

4560.00 asking price----- rusted strings-- scratchy pots-- bad action---
Id have MAYBE gone 450.00

sometimes the brand-- name-- age-- model -- and dollar amount -- dont make it a good guitar ---

in the same shop I played and fell in love with this

and for 243.00 brought it home and have been RUINED for all other strats -- HELL Hackmaster even got my USA MADE Peavey strat!!!! ---YEP -- I KEPT a MIM Fender --F'ed up volume knob and all----and passed on a USA Vitnage PEAVEY ------

SHOULD tell you how DAMN GOOD this strat is ----

I could still kick myself for not buying the '59 burst I had my eye on at We Buy Guitars on 48th St back in '82. It was under $4K with the original case. They had six or seven of them and the one I wanted wasn't the best looking but it played wonderfully and sounded amazing. At the time I was playing six nights a week, making good money and writing off my equipment purchases.

I let my then-wife talk me into buying a Toyota instead. Stupid things we do for love.
