I will start it off with how it all got started for me,

Here is how my wee 13-15 year old R n R infancy got hooked on HEAVY





When I hit my 30's Soundgarden came along and then of course widen my scope as I post other examples both older and newer.


I think it was likely Spoonman that got me to digging Soundgarden and getting Superunknown as my inaugural album of theirs. Later I would find another cd of theirs at believe it or not, the Goodwill store. It was Badmotofinger and of course jammin to the likes of Rusted Cage, Slaves and Bulldozers, and definitely Outshined that cemented SG as one of my favorite bands that did Heavy music right.

Of course and quite by coincidence is another Chris Cornell band, Audioslave. Cochise, Set it Off and Gasoline got me hooked on Audioslave after hearing these tunes.

 
Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Maiden, Rush, Blue Oyster Cult would be my foundations and follow me the rest of my life.

I mean who can escape Sweet Leaf,,,,,,,,,,,,, Even if one has aversion to inhaling smoke of any kind?

 
I almost forgot and put things out of order. MY first REAL HEAVY music came when I heard this song for the first time. I can still remember where, when and why I heard it. I was in the barber's chair when I was about 9 years old. My mom took us shoe shopping and there was a barber shop on the 2nd floor above the shoe store. The barber had his radio on and no other song I remember hearing, but this ICON of Rock,

 
More recentlyi really got into Shinedown

Thinking about this, it's actually been a pretty rare occurrence for me to hear one song that blows me away and then "discover" a band from that experience that both has a whole album of great songs and keeps on going and makes lots more great music, becoming a lifetime love. More often I hear one great song and then find out the rest of the album blows, or the band follows up a great album with a turd. You've actually hit on a couple of my personal ones, but I can think of a few more where I heard one song and BAM, the dopamine dump, followed by discovering a new favorite band. In no particular order, these come immediately to mind...

Haha, your RUSH, Def and Kiss all came to mind as well, but only RUSH made the biggest dents.

For me it was how I accidentally fell into my first exposure. I believe it was when I was in middle school and heard kids had gone to their concert. SO I got curious and went to the record store. I pored thru the RUSH albums they had and took my pick as my first endeavor into them.

This is what started it all. I had never heard one song,,,,,,,,,,,,, I just bought the "farm" so to speak and got the ALBUM
