Hard Rock Version of Hotel California???

Hmmmm....

After listening to Jorn's cover of Hotel California, I was ready to abandon this project altogether, but the band wanted me to create a hard rock version of this song that is faithful to our 'classic rock' style of doing things, and a version that won't sound totally naked played on just one guitar. Live, this will be performed on the double neck, but for now, I'm just messing with multi-tracks and tones, trying to find a decent arrangement.

I changed the key from the original B minor to A minor (for the vocalist) and kept the song in standard tuning so the bassist would not object to playing it, although I can tell you the song sounds much better in A minor when the guitars are tuned to E flat.

So, here is 1:14 of my concept with multi-guitar tracks and left/right panning...

Thoughts on the arrangement????

The thing i like about your posts Robert is that they inspire me and make me want to try and play the songs . Your playing or the videos you post make me want to pick up my guitar and try to play those songs. Love the Motorhead cover of Sandman. Awesome.

Very well done Robert. The finished piece is going to sound nice. On the one hand this is a song that, in its original form, I hope to never be subjected to again. On the other hand, a well-done hard rock/metal anything is a good thing to me!

If you do a Google search you will see there are dozens of hard rock/metal covers of this song out there too.

I appreciate that critique!!! I agree, while it is a great song, it's been done and should have a new approach!!!

What do you guys think about keeping the lead fills in the lower register - as it appears on the link I posted - as opposed to the higher register from the album version???? I'm looking for a different tone altogether...familiar, yet unique...
