Cinnamon Girl

Did this track with Vox Rythem 5 amp, with Tascam recorder 5 inches away from amp using a Godin Progression Plus Strat.DR0000 0023

That's good! You are getting good tone too, so microphone placement is good. You have all the elements of that song. Just a little polish and you'll be ready for the local coffee house.

Don't be discouraged. Those open chords in Cinnamon Girl are tough!

Your playing is more relaxed on '0031' and the vocals have a very relaxed feel. I still struggle to play and sing at the same time and you make it effortless!

Good work! Play and sing everyday! Thank you for sharing your work witg us!

Get no argument from me. There’s days I can’t walk and chew gum at the same time, let alone try and play a sing.

The tutorial I used to point me in the right direction was on a DVD that came out of Guitar World magazine something like 100 years ago. Fortunately I still have the DVD since I can’t seem to find it on You Tube or GW archives.

But it’s done by Andy Aledort and it’s really pretty darn accurate. Takes you thru the double drop D tuning. Takes it section by section. It helped me.

Thanks for your input Rob, I respect that.

Nice work!! OK, first comment is that I had to add an "n" to "Cinnamon" in the thread title. I am good at it because I am the king of typos. I hope that is OK.

It was very well put together. I would agree with Robert about emotional tenseness . Do you have a tight grip when playing? It seems that you have command of the chords and notes, but may have went sharp at times form pressing hard, which can also affect your ability to switch chords. This is a big problem for me, and it is not one that is easily changed. However, to the extent I was able to do so, it really helped.

Good job and please keep sharing!!

Very good catch by RVA...

Some sharpness was noted in the phrasing...now, I don't want to get too deep here and open a can of worms, but if you are playing a lot of open chords, it might pay to check your guitar's intonation along the first 5 frets. For example, my guitars are all intonated in the first 5 frets, even if the intonation is off a bit up in the higher register. In this way, all open chords are always dead-on....

Most likely, your intonation is fine and you might just be pressing a bit hard, pulling the notes sharp...

Copy that on the playing sharp. After nearly 40 years of only playing acoustic, I couldn’t play a note without playing sharp after I picked up my first electric. Some of it was intonation, but most of it was my technique. Ten years later I’m much better at it but sometimes still find myself doing the “death grip” when fretting and reminding myself to relax.

In the flip side. Playing electric may have helped me become a better acoustic player. Win. Win.

Thanks Ray for your comments much appreciated!! You and Robert are right, I was tense doing this recording, and yes I am pressing too hard on the strings, also when I play in front of people I want to make sure I hit the right notes. When I am just doodling around I am much better at not pressing hard. I keep working on that, and like you say when you press harder changes the sound sharp. Also as you were saying when pressing hard you don't move your hand as quick or smoothly to change Chords. I will keep working on this. Oh and no problem adding the n in Cinnamon thanks.

Yes Rob intonation is good , it is me pressing too hard. I had this guitar setup a week ago and I asked him to make sure of this. Thanks again for your input Rob, It means a lot to me coming from you guys that are so experienced in this field.

I love that song Session5,are you using the double drop D tuning Neil Young uses ? Plus once you tune to that song you can go right on to the song Ohio and work on that one also :) good job

Thanks JohhnyGoo! No I am not using the double drop D tuning that Neil uses I am doing it in Standard tuning. I will keep Ohio in mind, thanks.
