Not Amps, But Speaker Cabinets...

Speaking of repurposing. I came by some huge Cerwin Vega stereo speakers I got for free. I am thinking they have like 12 or 15 inch woofers. I need to re foam them, and could stand to build new enclosures for them. I just hate to throw em away. I bet they would sound awesome if not in stupid particle board/mdf with fake wood grain skin on the boxes.

Now that Chris Sp8 has brought up and built his speaker cabinets, I know I have much to learn about the good stuff.
In production and even boutique amps and cabinets. What do the experts and us less than so, players feel is the best construction for the best sounding cabinets.
I will leave amps to another topic.

My cabinets are 3. I have a Marshall 4x12 1960A Stereo 300 watt cab covered in Tolex. I also have 2 bass cabs. My one I have posted pics is the Mesa Road ready covered in that thin black sheeting glued to plywood and protected on all corner edges with aluminum corner strips and the customary metal corner guards on the pointy corners. It is loaded with 4 David Eden 135 watt 10 inch speakers. My other bass cab is a 1x15 Ampeg that is covered in carpet. Now I know many home stereo speakers are made from MDF or other junk and some speakers or combo amps such as I think the Bassman are made of solid wood like a good pine or birch. ( from fender....To finish up the revised Bassman, the ’59 LTD is housed in a cabinet constructed from solid finger-jointed yellow pine"

Does anyone have the definitive recommendations on cabinet material for the carcass, and well even the baffles? Next is Open Vs Closed back? All my cabs are closed, my 2 Fender combos are open.

I am curious about all this because of about 2 reasons. First, I am quite capable of building cabinets and would want to do them right for my own use.
2nd is if I ever made cabs for sale, I would want to start at the top of quality and actually have something that could sell at a price that I don't basically work for free after my materials and labor costs are concerned.

Not sure? Don't listen to his genre much.
About 10 years ago, Brad Paisley released a studio guitar album called "Play". Lot of other country hot-shots lend their helping fingers on this album, too. Even if Country is not your cup of coffee, this is still a very enjoyable listen to some mighty fine guitar picking from Brad and his Homies.

My 1x12 is finally 100% Complete...
Very nice, Sp8ctre... :yesway:. I really like the looks of the grill cloth and cab covering. IMO, the plastic look of the handle kind of clashes with the balance of the cloth and paisley cab cover. Maybe something more leather like... :hmmm:

And now, my usual barrage of questions:
More pics (sides, back, inside)?
Speaker?
Do the handles clear whatever amp head you want to use?
Did you recover an old cab?

More pics (sides, back, inside)? - Later tonight
Speaker? - Eminance Legend
Do the handles clear whatever amp head you want to use? - Don't know? I don't set a head on the cabinet. I'm running a Helix and a Crown Amp through it. They are rack mounted...
Did you recover an old cab? - Yes, the cab was a complete combo amp. I gutted it and cut it down. I doweled and glued the top back on and made it a cab only. Sorry don't think I took pics?
