No,no, not my wife...
New amp grooviness.
Made contact on a Craigslist deal last night for a Marshall DSL 15C.
The cat needs new AC for his car. Poor bastard had to sell gear.
Had a sweet blackface Deluxe Reverb reissue and a DSL 15C for $700.
Didn't have $700, but he'd take $300 for the DSL 15.
Had a few hundred bucks stashed, so I sprang into action.
Met him at a bar.
Best place to wait for someone, and did the deal.
Came home with a year old Marshall DSL 15C combo with footswitch, in very clean shape.
Hate to take advantage of someones misery but... I did.
Someone else claimed the Deluxe Reverb too, so the cat made an extra $100 by splitting them up.
Ended up with $800 instead of $700. Win for both sides. I instantly felt better.
Now to the pics...

So far so good. A pair of 6V6GC's and a quad of 12AX7's.
Everything works as it should.
Seems to be a winner.

Congrats on the DSL...

Now you can rub-it-in at that Ferengi we all know...

Did the Deluxe Reverb interest you at all?

Very nice! Wait until Adrian sees this!

The Deluxe did interest me Sysco, and Pops offered to slide me the cash while we were doing beers today, but I declined.
It really wasn't on my radar, and I hate to borrow from my 89 year old dad, especially to fund gear that I really don't even need.
Maybe if I needed a lung or a kidney, I might do it. But not for gear.

The Ferengi knew all about it.
He'll be on a buying frenzy soon enough with the new 2nd job and all.
Besides $300 is an obscene amount for him to pay for an amp.
He just wouldn't go for that. It's not profitable enough in proper Ferengi logic.

You're killing me!!! I have a DSL-15h sitting in the Sweetwater cart, and trying to talk myself out of it...
At $599 for the combo, I've talked myself out of it many times, but at $300, Jeez Louise I had to jump.

I'm sure if I checked the 'verb I could find a used one at a greatly reduced price. Need to try to resist. Don't need any more amps.

How's it sound?

I didn't need this one either, but...

Haven't had a chance to really let er' rip yet.
Wife is still working. ( home office)
But so far the 7.5 watt setting is pretty decent.
I really want to wail on it, but she hasn't even noticed it yet, that's a good thing.
Gonna let that sleeping dog be.
Marshall branded preamp & power tubes, probably Chinese.
Haven't seen an external bias trim pot or test port.
Going to pull the chassis next and investigate.

I'm pleasantly surprised, The power tubes are a pair of Tube Amp Doctor (TAD) 6V6GT-STR.

Not sure the origin of the preamp tubes. All are Marshall branded.
The chassis came out easily. The PCB.s are pretty robust looking.

The bias pots are board mounted.

Decent sized transformers for a 15 watter.

So far quite favorably impressed.
Next up, going to check the bias.

The bias is right on the money.
20ma on each tube. 18 to 21ma seems to be the ballpark for these.

Congratulations, Hackmaster! If you would like to reduce the gain on the red channel, all you need to do is replace the 12ax7 in V1 with a JJ ecc823 valve. Green channel remains untouched, but the red will be reduced by 20-30%. I have a feeling that you will really dig this simple change.

Thank you for that tip Goldmember, I have some NOS JAN Sylvania 5751's that I can put to use there, if needed.

Ohhh, just looked up that EEC823, that's a special little beast indeed.
Going to order a couple. Double thanks Mr. G

What's unique about the ecc823 is that it uses the triodes in reverse order...but with the red side reduced in gain. It leaves the green channel as is and tames the red channel down. Using a 5751 will reduce gain on both channels by 30%, whereas the ecc823 will only affect the red.

I dig, very cool indeed.

I cannot believe you didn't suggest for Hackmaster to get the JJ's with the GOLD pins...
